This is the last big weekend in the 2020 recruiting cycle during the “contact period” before next week’s National Signing Day on Wednesday, February 5th. At the moment the only confirmed 2020 prospects taking official visits to UGA this weekend are 2020 athlete and wide receiver Ladd McConkey and Memphis University School offensive lineman Marcus Henderson.
2020 preferred walk-on wide receiver commit Braxton Lee Hicks is visiting. The 6-foot-2 and 195 lbs senior out of Rabun County High School in Tiger, GA accepted UGA’s PWO offer back in November.
There has been talk of 2020 RB Zachary Evans visiting Athens this weekend after he supposedly announced on Instagram that he would be doing so, but I could not find anything to confirm that. Evans did post this on his Twitter account on Wednesday.
Then there was Thursday’s announcement of Colquitt County High School running back Daijun Edwards committing to the Bulldogs; so, the question is whether or not there is a spot for Evans in this 2020 recruiting class left?
2020 offensive tackle UGA commit Broderick Jones is scheduled to take an official visit to Auburn after taking his official to UGA last weekend. (Update: As of late this morning, several media outlets are reporting Jones is no longer doing so). And 2020 center and o-line UGA commit Sedrick Van Pran is visiting Florida. Daijun Edwards was slated to visit FSU this weekend but he canceled his trip to Tallahassee.
Here are the 2021 prospects on unofficial visits:
Ryan Barnes | 3-star CB |6-foot-2 | 195 lbs | Quince Orchard HS, MD
Micah Morris | 4-star OT | 6-foot-4 | 316 lbs | Camden County HS, GA
Evan Pryor | 4-star RB | 5-foot-10 | 190 lbs | William Amos Hough HS, NC
Quintin Somerville | 4-star DE | 6-foot-3 | 230 lbs | Saguaro HS, AZ
West Weeks | 3-star ATH | 6-foot-2 | 195 lbs | Oconee County HS, GA
The “contact period” will end at midnight on Saturday night and transition into a one day “quiet period” before we enter into a “dead period.”
The “quiet period” also for in-person recruiting on a university’s campus but no off-campus in-person recruiting.
The “dead period” will be in effect for the rest of February before entering into an “evaluation period” in May. During the “dead period” coaches may not have any in-person contact with prospective student-athletes but can still communicate via electronic and written media.
So hold on tight ladies and gentlemen as we head into the last lap of the 2020 recruiting cycle over the next several days until the baton is passed to 2021.
