MTENNIS: Tyler Zink Named to SEC All-Newcomer Team
Tyler Zink

Georgia men’s tennis sophomore Tyler Zink — a two-time Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-American — has been named to the 2021 Southeastern Conference All-Newcomer Team, the league office announced this week.

The SEC All-Newcomer Team recognizes sophomores who excelled on the court this season. Zink is one of just six players on the list, joining Tyler Stice (Auburn), Blaise Bicknell (Florida), Liam Draxl (Kentucky), Gabriel Diallo (Kentucky) and Connor Thomson (South Carolina).

Zink earned All-America status for the second-straight year when he and Trent Bryde garnered a top-8 national seed in the NCAA doubles championship. The Bradenton, Fla., native and second-team All-SEC selection played No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles in 2021. He entered the NCAA championships ranked No. 7 nationally in doubles and No. 27 in singles.

In just two seasons with the Bulldogs, Zink has put together an impressive resume that includes SEC First-Year Academic honors, ITA Southeast Rookie of the Year, and ITA Scholar-Athlete, among other awards.

This year’s Georgia team posted a 17-7 overall record and earned a third-place spot in the Southeastern Conference standings. The Bulldogs won 11 of their last 14 matches, including a 4-3 victory against No. 6 North Carolina in the NCAA Round of 16.
