Thompson, Phillips Wrap Up NCAAs

Georgia golfers Davis Thompson and Trent Phillips concluded play on Monday in the NCAA Championships at Grayhawk Golf Club.

Playing the par-70, 7,289-yard layout, Thompson logged a 2-under 68 and Phillips signed for a 1-under 69. They were competing as individuals after the Bulldogs were unable to advance in the tournament’s first cut on Sunday.

Thompson, a senior from Auburn, Ala., concluded his Georgia career at 3-over 283 and in 17th individually. Medalist honors went to Clemson’s Turk Pettit (a Lee-Scott Academy teammate of Thompson’s) at 7-under 273. Thompson finished the year with two victories, six top-10s, and nine top-20s in 10 tournaments.





Thompson, the SEC’s Golfer of the Year, finished second in the final PGA Tour University rankings and earned Korn Ferry Tour membership. He will be exempt into all open, full-field events beginning with the BMW Charity Pro-Am June 10-13. Thompson also holds a sponsor exemption for the PGA Tour’s Rocket Mortgage Classic July 1-4.

Phillips, a junior from Boiling Springs, S.C., came in 22nd with a total of 4-over 284. He posted a win, four top-10s, and five top-20s this season. Next up for Phillips will be the Arnold Palmer Cup as he plays for Team USA June 11-13 in Sugar Grove, Ill.





On-Campus Recruiting Restarts

NCAA set June 1 as the magic date and it will be magic for the hundreds of young prospects who will be visiting schools around the country beginning today. After a year of Zoom meetings with coaches, having prospects back on campus signal in hard reset of NCAA’s protective stance in light of what appear to be a waning pandemic..

Athletes will being visits today. Some kids will be on official visits (expenses paid by the institution) while other visit Athens while other will pay there own travel expenses. This year we have also seen the rise of multi-player visits, with some players grouping together for travel.

At Bulldawg Illustrated we are going to focus of additions to the current class and kids in the 2022 recruiting class. When news from the aforementioned is available we will publish them un the “Recruiting Notes” heading.

Tuesday Recruiting Notes – Posted As They Arrive

On Monday, Orlando (Fla.) IMG Academy class of 2023 edge defender Malik Bryant announced his plans to be in Athens. Bryant is considered the nation’s No. 12 overall prospect, No. 2 edge defender, and No. 4 overall prospect in Florida according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite.

Lehigh Acres (Fla.) tailback Richard Young, the nation’s No. 1 running back for the 2023 cycle, and Fort Worth (Texas) Brewer five-star defensive tackle and Georgia commitment Bear Alexander as five-stars confirmed to be visiting Georgia on June 1.
