In the span of a couple of weeks, Lonnie Johnson Jr. received a visit from Georgia Defensive Coordinator Mel Tucker, was offered a scholarship by the Bulldogs, and took an official visit to the University of Georgia. The 2017 JUCO defensive back out of Garden City C.C. is set to announce his decision from his high school Alma mater, West Side, in Gary, IN on Tuesday evening at 6 p.m. CT (7 p.m. ET).
Georgia has 18 verbal commitments for the Class of 2017 so far and two of those are defensive backs, Richard LeCounte III and William Poole III. The Bulldogs could use a few more DBs, though. At 6 foot 3 and 205 lbs, Johnson would add some size to the Bulldog’s secondary, and he is considered one of the top two JUCO safeties for this class. Will he choose UGA on Tuesday? I am 70% confident he will, but LeCounte may already know who Johnson is going to pick …
