
The Georgia Bulldogs made sure Homecoming week ended with a celebration, defeating Kentucky 35-14 in front of a crowd of 93,033 at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.
Quarterback Gunner Stockton led the Bulldogs with two rushing touchdowns and a passing score.
Head coach Kirby Smart praised Stockton after the game.
“He’s the poster child for fire, passion, and energy,” Smart said.
The Bulldogs got on the board early when Stockton broke free for a 7-yard touchdown run midway through the first quarter. He struck again before the end of the quarter, rushing six yards to extend the lead to 14-0.
Kentucky answered in the second quarter with a 29-yard touchdown pass from Cutter Boley to Josh Kattus, cutting the deficit to 14-7. Georgia responded quickly. Dillon Bell powered in from three yards out to push the Bulldogs ahead 21-7 heading into halftime. The Wildcats missed a 26-yard field goal attempt just before the halftime break.
Georgia’s defense took control in the second half. Linebacker CJ Allen recovered a fumble, the first of the season, setting up a big 36-yard completion from Stockton to tight end Oscar Delp. Bell finished the drive with his second rushing touchdown of the day to make it 28-7.
Stockton added one more score, connecting with Cash Jones on a 16-yard touchdown pass to stretch the lead to 35-7. Kentucky added a late touchdown, but the Bulldogs closed out the game comfortably.
Chauncey Bowens led Georgia’s ground attack with 70 yards on 15 carries as the team totaled 180 rushing yards. Allen anchored the defense with six tackles and a fumble recovery, while defensive back Ellis Robinson IV added an interception.
Next week, the Bulldogs travel to Jordan-Hare Stadium to face Auburn.
Stockton is looking forward to next weekend.
