Bulldogs to Watch: UGA vs. Vandy 2026

‌DWIGHT PHILLIPS JR

GLENN SCHUMANN (DC) – Glenn Schumann will be an important coach to watch as Georgia prepares to face Vanderbilt. Schumann, who has been calling defensive plays since 2022, will enter the game with a defense that has helped the Bulldogs start 4-0. Schumann emphasized in the preseason that Georgia’s defense needs to avoid weaknesses across all areas. Against Vanderbilt, his game plan will be important in limiting the Commodores’ offense and continuing Georgia’s strong defensive start. With SEC play underway, Schumann will be tasked with keeping the Bulldogs’ defense disciplined and creating pressure.

‌GUNNER STOCKTON (QB #14) – Gunner Stockton enters Georgia’s matchup with Vanderbilt as one of the Bulldogs’ most important players to watch. He has helped carry the Dawgs to four straight wins, scoring over 40 points. Against Oklahoma, Stockton completed 14-of-25 passes for 171 yards and a touchdown. With Vanderbilt marking another SEC test, Stockton will be key to keeping Georgia’s offense efficient and continuing to connect with explosive receivers like Talyn Taylor.

‌DWIGHT PHILLIPS JR (RB #20) – In Georgia’s dominant win against Oklahoma Saturday, Dwight Phillips Jr. had a career-long rush and the third touchdown of his career. Phillips averaged 10.5 yards per carry against the Sooners in his breakout performance. The game and his skills have shown that the running back room has many capable options. If he continues to make explosive plays, Dawg fans could see Phillips utilized as a bigger part of their ground game.

‌TALYN TAYLOR (WR #1) – Talyn Taylor was the leading receiver against the Sooners, finishing with 110 yards and a touchdown. His biggest impact was a 35-yard touchdown in the second quarter and a 41-yard reception later. As Georgia breaks in their new receiving corps, Taylor has established himself as a core part of that room. Taylor will hopefully have a larger role throughout the season as he has clear chemistry with Gunner Stockton at quarterback and the ability to make big plays for the Dawgs against Vanderbilt.

‌ELIJAH GRIFFIN (DL #90) – Elijah Griffin is excelling in his first season as a starter. Georgia has been dominant against the run game so far this season, and Griffin has been a big part of that. Through the first four games, opponents are averaging only around 60 rushing yards a game. Against Vanderbilt, Griffin will be needed up front to generate pressure and win at the line of scrimmage. The Commodores may have to devote extra blocking attention to him to be successful in achieving scoring opportunities.

‌JORDAN HALL (DL #44) – As a senior, Jordan Hall is a veteran for the interior. His sheer size at 6-4, 320 pound, he is particularly important when trying to control the middle of the field. Against Vanderbilt, Hall will be key to control and stop the run game at the line. If Hall and the rest of the interior can consistently block and close off their run game, it will allow Georgia’s linebackers to make plays.

‌PEYTON WOODRING (PK #91)- Against Oklahoma, Woodring made two field goals and broke the SEC and UGA record for longest consecutive streak of extra points with 201. Woodring has solidified himself as one of the best kickers in college football. Having a reliable option to put points on the board is key in conference play. No matter the opponent, Kirby Smart thrives to consistently dominate, and having Woodring makes that possible.
