The No. 9 GymDogs closed out the weekend with a 197.200-197.150 victory over No. 10 Kentucky to keep Georgia undefeated at home in 2025.

Two more meets, one last home meet in Stegeman Coliseum… the Gymdogs’ first regular season under co-head coaches Cécile Canqueteau-Landi and Ryan Roberts is coming to a close and there is so much to be excited about moving into the postseason and the future of this new era.

It’s a tough road ahead for Georgia as the GymDogs close out the season with matchups against the No. 1 and No. 2 ranked teams in the country. Georgia travels to Baton Rouge on Friday to take on the defending national champion Tigers, currently ranked No. 2. Then, the Gymdogs return home to wrap up the 2025 regular season campaign with a matchup set for Friday, March 14 against Oklahoma, currently ranked No. 1.

Win lose or draw, the SEC Championship follows. On March 22, the GymDogs hit the road to Birmingham for a chance to earn the SEC crown.

During this first-year underneath the new dynamic duo of Canqueteau-Landi and Roberts, the storyline is not the challenging road to close out the season, rather what we have to look forward to in what seems like a culture-changing return to glory in the near future.

The two head coaches have taken a very young squad led by underclassmen and earned them a No. 9 national ranking as we speak.

Development, check.

Sophomores like Lily Smith, Holly Snyder and Ady Wahl had great freshmen years in 2024. In the age of the transfer portal, you might think after a coaching change at the helm, these student-athletes will transfer. Nope… not after Canqueteau-Landi and Roberts were announced as the next head coaches. Whether it’s NIL or culture, the co-head coaches retained these young women who are key pieces to success for the GymDogs. On the contrary, they went out and got standouts from the portal like Anaya Smith, the transfer from Arizona State.

Transfer portal, check.

Freshmen like Nyla Aquino and Harley Tomlin were two massive signees in the class of 2024. Now, they are making impacts in their first year at Georgia.

Recruiting, check. More development, check.

Finally, despite NIL seeming to take over the landscape of college athletics, culture seems to be the ultimate driving force for where college athletes sign. Yes, some of the football and basketball stars are getting paid exorbitant amounts of money, but in a sport like gymnastics, these young women can’t always ask for NIL checks like some of the bigger name student-athletes. Rather, they go to a school where they feel they can develop, where they feel they are loved by their coaches, fans and alumni, where they can be successful in a system that promotes success.

Not only is gymnastics the second-most attended sport on UGA’s campus, these head coaches are promoting a raucous atmosphere at Stegeman Coliseum. From Simone Biles attending the home opener to cowboy hat night when Canqueteau-Landi wore her custom hat and red sparkly boots, that’s having fun. That’s appealing to these 18-22 year olds.

That is culture. Canqueteau-Landi and Roberts have established that culture yet again. They have built something to last.

Culture, check.

These are exciting times for the GymDogs so don’t miss your last chance to see them this regular season in Stegeman Coliseum when Oklahoma comes to town on March 14!
