Chambliss, Ole Miss defeat Georgia 39-34 in Sugar Bowl

Ole Miss defeats Georgia 39-34 in Caesars Superdome, giving the Rebels a berth into the College Football Playoff Semifinals for the first time in program history. 

Gunner Stockton scored the game’s first touchdown on a 12-yard rush to give Georgia a 7-6 lead with 13:37 remaining in the second quarter. The Bulldogs’ 21-point second quarter resulted in a 21-12 lead at halftime. 

 

 

 

 

Kewan Lacy gave the Rebels their first lead since the first quarter with a 7-yard touchdown rush to make the score 27-24 with 11:29 left in the game. 

Georgia failed to convert on fourth down from their own 33-yard line, which set Ole Miss up for a two-play drive capped off by a touchdown pass by Trinidad Chambliss to Harrison Wallace III. 

The Bulldogs quickly responded after Zachariah Branch caught an 18-yard touchdown pass from Stockton to get within three points with 7:03 remaining in the fourth quarter. 

 

 

 

 

Georgia had a chance to take the lead with under a minute to go, but settled for a 24-yard field goal from Peyton Woodring to tie the game at 34. 

Chambliss found De’Zhaun Stribling on third down for a 40-yard completion to set the Rebels up for a game-winning field goal from Lucas Carneiro in the final seconds.

Georgia: Georgia struggled to sustain drives, going 3-13 on third down. With zero sacks and multiple big plays allowed, the Bulldogs were unable to keep Chambliss’ offense out of rhythm.
