Happy National Signing Day 2020 everyone!
While it might not be Christmas in February for college football fans like it used to be with the advent of the Early Signing Period in December, the first Wednesday of the month still holds a special place in the hearts of those that follow recruiting.
UGA currently has 23 prospects in its 2020 recruiting class not counting graduate transfer quarterback Jamie Newman and tight end Tre’ McKitty. Of those twenty-three, 6 are already enrolled as mid-year enrollees and 13 signed their National Letter of Intent during the Early Signing Period in December. That leaves 4 commits who have yet to sign and will do so today. Will they stick with Georgia? Will the Dawgs add one or two more? Do they have the room to do so?
So stay tuned ladies and gentlemen. Without further ado, here is the announcement and signing schedule for the day.
What time are the four 2020 UGA commits who not signed yet supposed to do so?
Offensive linemen Broderick Jones and Sedrick Van Pran are scheduled to sign this Wednesday morning along with athlete and wide receiver Ladd McConkey while Colquitt County running back Daijun Edwards will be signing around 1:00 p.m. ET this afternoon.
And if Bulldogs do add any more signees to the 2020 class, a couple of prospects to keep your eye on are…
Current Ole Miss 2020 defensive back commit Daran Branch announced via Twitter Monday night that he plans to sign from the auditorium of Amite High School at 9:30 a.m. CT (10:30 a.m. ET).
But the question is will Branch sign with the Rebels or flip to the Bulldogs? Georgia was able to get Branch to take one of his last official visits on January 24th just a couple of weeks ago.
Collins Hill High School Cameron Kinnie is undeclared and plans to announce his decision and sign his LOI at 2:30 p.m. ET. He took an official visit to UGA back on January 24th just a few days after Coach Smart popped in for an in-home visit on January 20th, and if there is room, Kinnie could be headed to Athens.
What about Zachary Evans?
I know folks are going to want to ask about North Shore running back Zachary Evans; so, I’ll do my best to provide an answer to this 2020 recruiting drama and saga. He signed an LOI with the Bulldogs back during the Early Signing Period but Georgia did not turn it in. Why? That is a question that I do not have an answer to, but suffice it to say, UGA ended up releasing Evans out of his LOI which freed him up to take visits and continue his recruitment. Which he did. Evans took officials to Ole Miss on January 17th and then to Tennesse on January 24th.
But Evans is not expected to make a decision or an announcement today. He doesn’t have to because he cannot sign another LOI. Even if a prospect is released from their LOI, they can only sign one during a recruiting cycle. That means he could possibly take his recruitment out till spring or further into early summer. Evans still has one official he can take as well. While the talented five-star tailback could still end up in Athens when it is all said and done, I’m not sure there will be room on the roster come June.
What about Jordan Burch?
Burch will sign his LOI today at 1:00 p.m. ET with the rest of his Hammond High School classmates. The five-star defensive tackle committed to South Carolina during the Early Signing Period but did not sign his “letter.”
Could Burch flip?
Yes, but don’t expect that flip to be to Georgia. After he committed the Gamecocks back on December 18th, Burch stated in several interviews that LSU and Clemson were No. 2 and No. 3 in the recruiting race behind S.C.
