Daily Dawg Thread

Alex Huntley is a four-star defensive tackle from Columbia, South Carolina. He’s 6-4 295 pounds. According to the latest 2020 247Sports rankings, he ranks as the No. 105 overall player, No. 5 DT and the No. 3 prospect in South Carolina. Huntley currently holds seven offers with the latest offer coming from Tennessee on April 25. Georgia offered him last November. Since then, he visited for camp on June 12. Before that, he attended South Carolina’s camp on June 7 and then went to Ohio State’s camp on June 16. Huntley’s pinned tweet is his Georgia offer. However, on his 247Sports profile, South Carolina holds 100 percent of the advantage. It’s still early for this one to make a decision, but I expect it to come down to Georgia and South Carolina.
I caught up with the four-star defensive tackle to see where things are and to see which two teams have pushed the most for him thus far.

Alex Huntley Interview

Q: How is the overall recruiting process going for you so far?

A: “Recruiting is going well. I spent my summer in the weight room and at camps. I’m really trying to focus on my season this year.”

Q: What do you think of Georgia?

A: “I love Georgia. They were an early offer for me which means a lot and the program just keeps getting better. I also really like Coach Scott. We vibe really well, and there’s a lot I can learn from him. After touring the school, talking with the academic people and really spending some time with Coach Scott, I was even more impressed.”

Q: How hard are they recruiting you? And what are some things they are telling you?

A: “I do feel that Georgia has stepped up the recruiting since my last visit in June. After I attended the camp, Coach Smart and Coach Scott told me that they liked what I was doing. Coach Scott said he appreciated that I worked hard and worked like I didn’t already have an offer.”

Q: What did it mean to you to get that offer from Georgia?

A: “The offer from Georgia means a lot to me. Not only are they a top-notch program, but also what Coach Scott is doing with the D line is special, and they are only getting better. Coach Scott is definitely a coach I could see myself playing for. He’s really down to earth, and he keeps it real.”

Q: So tell me more about coach Scott?

A: “Coach Scott is great. I spent a little time with him last year after the UGA vs. USC game. He’s also been to my school a few times, and then I spent some time with him when I camped last month.”

Q: What school(s) are recruiting you the hardest right now?

A: “I’m hearing from a few schools. I’m probably going to check out some games this season at UGA, USC, Tennessee, Oklahoma and maybe the Longhorns. However, I’d say USC and UGA are recruiting me the hardest.”

Q: What are the key factors that will go into your decision?

A: “Key factors for my decision will be coaches, program philosophy, facilities, an opportunity to earn a chance to play early, fans, and of course academics. Right now I’m thinking about a sports management major with a minor in economics.”

Q: Any top schools yet? If so who?

A: “I’m not narrowing down or focusing on offers or top schools right now because my first priority is to my team and my season. After this season, I will look to narrow things down more.”

Q: Have you decided when you will commit to a school? If so when?

A: “I don’t have plans to commit early right now.”

Q: Do you have plans on coming back to Athens? If so when?

A: “I’m definitely coming back, but I’m not sure when though. I’d like to check out another game this season.”
