Yesterday on the Bulldawg Illustrated Daily Dawg Thread, we examined the offensive linemen that are currently committed to the Georgia football program for the Class of 2020. The program currently sits at the #4 spot in Team Class Rankings for the current recruiting cycle per 247Sports.com with 14 commitments in total. While the crop of recruits that offensive line coach Sam Pittman has pulled into the program is impressive, defensive line coach Tray Scott has done a fine job as well in bringing in top talent to play on the Dawgs’ defensive line. A recap and overview of those defensive linemen that are “Committed To The G” for the current recruiting cycle are listed as follows:

1. Class Of 2020 4-Star DT Jalen Carter (6-4, 301 – Apopka High School – Apopka, Florida) – Carter is currently rated the #7 overall defensive tackle and the #9 overall player in the state of Florida for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Compositee Rankings. He is an exceptional defensive lineman that will certainly make a difference on the defense for the Dawgs upon his arrival in Athens. He has a big frame and is of strong stature standing in at 6-4 and 301 pounds. The Apopka product is a physical player that tackles opponents with authority and tenacity. Aside from playing angry and aggressive as it relates to both his tackling and blocking abilities, he is very versatile in that he has the capability to play on either the outside or the inside position. One of the more noticeable attributes that sets Carter apart from the other linemen around him is his quickness despite his massive size. Such was notated not long ago by 247Sports Recruiting Analyst John Garcia Jr. about the defensive lineman when he watched Carter perform at the 2019 Under Armour All-America Camp in Orlando, Florida. Garcia Jr. further noted that Carter’s speed enabled him to be proficient and to stand out among other the elite linemen that were also in attendance at the camp. Carter played at the tight end position as a Junior before making the transition to the defensive line and since that time he has made considerable progress. The Bulldogs have a great deal of upside and multiple options with what they could do and how they could use the “Sunshine State” prospect.

2. Class Of 2020 4-Star DT Warren Brinson (6-4.5, 299 – IMG Academy – Bradenton, Florida) – Brinson is currently rated the #30 overall DT in the country and the #52 overall player in the state of Florida for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is originally from Chatham County, Georgia, but left for IMG Academy prior to the beginning of his Junior year in high school. He is of good stature, frame, and build for the defensive lineman position standing in at 6-4.5 and 299 pounds. The IMG Academy prospect is very strong, mobile, and quick on his feet possessing a swift first step allowing the 4-Star DT to beat many of the opponents he faces. Aside from these attributes, he bears strong hands, a good deal of zeal and swagger as a defender, and is an effective tackler and pass-rusher. In his Junior campaign for IMG Academy in 2018, Brinson garnered 27 total tackles (16 Solo Tackles, 11 Assisted Tackles), 7 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks, 1 pass deflection, and 1 quarterback hurry.

3. Class Of 2020 4-Star DT Jamil Burroughs (6-2, 330 – McEachern High School – Powder Springs, Georgia) – Burroughs is currently rated the #29 overall defensive tackle and the #34 overall player in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. He is a strong and well-rounded defensive lineman that has some speed. The McEachern High School prospect has the ability to penetrate and shoot through gaps and he can hold his own against the run game of the opposition on the field. Though he is 6-2 and 330 pounds, Burroughs reportedly has a best 40-yard dash time of a 4.87 showing that he has a good motor with all that size. Burroughs made 62 tackles (34 solo tackles, 28 assisted tackles), 13 tackles for loss, 6 sacks, and 2 forced fumbles in 13 games played as a Sophomore. Only appearing in 6 games as a Junior for McEachern, the in-state defensive playmaker posted 27 total tackles (19 solo tackles, 8 assisted tackles), 6 tackles for loss, and 1 blocked field goal.

4. Class Of 2020 4-Star DT Nazir Stackhouse (6-3.5, 306 – Columbia High School – Decatur, Georgia) – Stackhouse is currently rated the #23 overall defensive tackle and the #27 overall player in the state of Georgia for the Class of 2020 per 247Sports Composite Rankings. The Columbia High DT is an imposing figure standing in at 6-3.5 and 306 pounds. Much like Burroughs, he has shown that he has some speed to go along with his size as he ran a 5.38 in the 40-yard dash at the Nike Opening Regional not long ago. Stackhouse was one of the Dawgs’ first commits of the 2020 cycle proffering his pledge to the “Red and Black” in December of 2017. He has the ability to line up all across the line in different fronts and is efficient at using his length to stack would be blockers. The in-state defensive prospect also has great field awareness and has the uncanny ability to find the ball on the field of play and then shred through his opponents to go make the play. While he offered his allegiance to play for the Dawgs a good length of time ago and he has stated that he is 100 percent committed to the Georgia football program, it appears there may be some cause for concern. Stackhouse has visited Auburn on three different occasions this year and has only visited Athens one time during the same calendar frame. Many would shrug this off as just taking part in and enjoying the recruiting process but that many visits to another SEC East program while committed to the Bulldogs is somewhat alarming in many respects. One can only hope that the Georgia coaching staff is keeping tabs on the defensive tackle to ensure that he stay at “home” and plays his Saturdays “Between The Hedges”.
