Gunner Stockton: Strengths, Weaknesses, and 2025 Season Outlook

Strengths
Gunner Stockton enters 2025 as a redshirt junior and one of the most intriguing quarterbacks on Georgia’s roster. At 6’1, 215 pounds, he brings a compact but sturdy frame built for both durability and mobility. His biggest strength is his dual-threat capability—he can push the ball downfield with accuracy while also creating plays with his legs. Stockton is decisive when breaking the pocket, often turning broken plays into chunk yardage. His leadership traits are well-regarded inside the program; teammates view him as a competitor with high football IQ, molded in the system after several years of development under Kirby Smart’s staff.

Weaknesses
While Stockton has the tools to command an SEC offense, consistency remains the hurdle. He has shown flashes of precision but occasionally struggles with timing throws against tight coverage. Footwork under pressure is another area to watch—when forced into quick reads, he sometimes rushes mechanics, which can lead to errant passes. Additionally, he has yet to prove himself over a full SEC schedule as the undisputed QB1, making durability and decision-making under fire important unknowns.

Projected Season Accomplishments
The 2025 season shapes up as Stockton’s best opportunity to lead Georgia’s offense. If he secures and maintains the starting role, he projects as a quarterback capable of producing 2,800–3,200 passing yards with 20+ touchdowns through the air, while adding another 400–500 yards and several scores on the ground. His dual-threat style gives Mike Bobo’s offense added flexibility, especially in red-zone situations where his legs can extend drives and create mismatches.

Given Georgia’s championship-level roster, Stockton doesn’t need to be flawless—he needs to be efficient, avoid turnovers, and maximize explosive plays off play-action. If he meets those marks, he could guide Georgia back to the SEC Championship Game with realistic playoff expectations. Individually, a strong campaign could put him in the conversation for All-SEC honors and position him as a legitimate NFL prospect entering 2026.
