WTEN: Georgia Opens 2025 with Tech in Athens

The Georgia women’s tennis team is set to open its 2025 spring season when it hosts in-state rival Georgia Tech on Friday, Jan. 17 at 5 p.m. ET at the Lindsey Hopkins Indoor Tennis Facility.

  • The 37th meeting marks the first ever where the Bulldogs face off against the Yellow Jackets in a season-opening match.
  • Georgia leads the all-time series 30-6, having won each of its last six meetings while taking 12 of the last 14 matches.
  • The Bulldogs enter their second season of the Drake Bernstein era, coming off a stellar 2024 season in which they produced a 25-5 overall record, claimed both SEC Regular Season and Tournament titles while also finishing as NCAA runner-up.
  • The Red and Black are led by senior Dasha Vidmanova, who enters as the reigning NCAA Singles National Champion. The Prague, Czech Republic native dons a career-high ITA No. 1 singles ranking to start the spring, as she looks to lead the Bulldogs on singles court one with a career overall singles mark of 87-24, nearing an 80 percent win rate (.784).
  • The Bulldogs will rely on four seniors this spring: Dasha Vidmanova, Mell Reasco, Guillermina Grant , and Mai Nirundorn . Theylook to finish their Georgia careers on a high note.
  • Five players enter the season ranked for Georgia. In singles, three Bulldogs were listed as Dasha Vidmanova leads the way at No. 1 followed by junior Anastasiia Lopata at No. 29 and Guillermina Grant at No. 60. In doubles, Grant and sophomore Aysegul Mert slot in at No. 19 followed by the pairing of Mert and freshman Hayden Mulberry at No. 43.
  • Georgia’s sole match indoors in Athens last year took place in its 2024 SEC Tournament Championship match victory over Texas A&M.

WBB: TAMU Comeback Defeats UGA, 68-63

Down by eight in the fourth quarter, Texas A&M stormed back to defeat the Georgia Lady Bulldog basketball team, 68-63, Thursday at Reed Arena. 

Fast Facts

• Freshman Miyah Verse recorded her second career double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds. 

• It was an even first-half as the score was knotted 14-all at the end of the first quarter and 30-all at the half. 

• The Lady Bulldogs went on a 6-0 run early in the second half to take a 39-35 advantage with 3:47 left in the third frame. 

• Georgia built a 58-50 lead late in the fourth game, but Texas A&M went on an 18-5 run to close the game.
