Georgia’s 2025 Special Teams Snapshot: Punter and Kicker Depth Chart Breakdown

After a season that saw steady, if not spectacular, special teams play, Georgia enters the 2025 season with both continuity and new competition at punter and kicker. While the Bulldogs saw losses in both areas from the 2024 roster, their current specialists group blends experience, leg strength, and developmental talent as they prepare for another championship push.

Kicker: Woodring Returns with SEC-Proven Power

Peyton WoodringRedshirt Senior, 5-10, 185 lbs

Woodring enters his final season as one of the most reliable kickers in the SEC. After a solid 2024 campaign, he returns to anchor the kicking game with a strong leg and dependable accuracy, especially from inside 45 yards. His return ensures Georgia won’t be scrambling for consistency in high-pressure situations.

Liam BadgerRedshirt Senior, 6-0, 195 lbs

Badger provides veteran depth behind Woodring. While he hasn’t handled primary duties, his years in the system give Georgia an experienced option if needed.

Henry BatesRedshirt Junior, 5-11, 190 lbs

Bates offers a developmental option. He has steadily progressed in practice but is expected to remain behind Woodring and Badger, barring injury.

Outlook: With Woodring’s experience and calm under pressure, Georgia’s placekicking unit should be among the most secure in the SEC.

2025 Punter Depth

1. Brett ThorsonSenior, 6-2, 235 lbs

The Australian punter is back for a final season and enters 2025 as one of the most experienced players on the team. Known for his placement and control, Thorson is adept at directional punting and has minimized returns throughout his career.

2. Drew MillerSophomore, 6-2, 210 lbs

Miller is the primary backup and has been developing under Thorson’s guidance. He has a strong leg and could step in if needed, but he’s expected to take over entirely in 2026.

Outlook: Georgia is in good hands at punter. Thorson offers elite technique, and Miller is next in line with SEC size and potential. The unit may even see designed fakes or directional kicks as part of the Bulldogs’ special teams strategy.

Final Assessment

Georgia enters 2025 with elite punter stability and a competitive kicker battle. While the placekicking duties will be monitored closely, special teams coordinator Kirk Benedict has options in Woodring, Badger and Bates. Meanwhile, Thorson provides a rare asset at punter— a player capable of flipping the field against elite competition.

The Bulldogs’ special teams don’t yet boast household names (except Thorson), but this group has the tools and experience to be a quietly crucial piece of Georgia’s 2025 title hopes.
