NIT Update: UGA meets Wake Forest on Sunday at 4:00 in Winston-Salem

The Georgia Bulldogs will take on Wake Forest on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. in the second round of the NIT. The game will be played at Lawrence Joel Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Winston-Salem, N.C., and will be televised on ESPN2.

Georgia, a No. 4 seed, defeated Xavier, 78-76, on Tuesday night in Athens. Wake Forest, a No. 1 seed, beat Appalachian State, 87-76, on Wednesday.

The Bulldogs and Demon Deacons met earlier this season in Athens, with Georgia earning an 80-77 victory on Nov. 11 to improve to 5-3 in the all-time series against Wake Forest.

Tickets for Sunday’s game will go on sale at noon on Thursday and can be purchased here.

SEC established a scheduling format for Georgia’s 2025 football season

The Southeastern Conference has established a scheduling format for Georgia’s 2025 football season as well as the rest of the SEC, according to a league announcement Wednesday.

Similar to the 2024 SEC football schedule, teams will play eight conference games plus one required opponent from the ACC, Big Ten, Big 12, Pac-12 or major independent during the 2025 season.

Schools will play the same opponents in 2025 that they are scheduled to play in 2024, with sites changed for equal home and away competition over the course of the two seasons.  The 2024 season is the first in which Oklahoma and Texas will compete in the SEC.

“We continue to monitor changes across college sports as they relate to future scheduling,” said SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey. “Continuing with our current format for the 2025 season provides additional time to understand the impact of the changes happening around us as we determine the appropriate long-term plan for SEC football scheduling.”

The full schedule of dates of games for the 2025 football season will be announced at a later time.

The 2025 schedule format was approved by a vote of the SEC Presidents and Chancellors last week following a recommendation from the league’s Athletics Directors.

The 2025 season will be the second year that the SEC Championship Game will feature the top two teams in the 16-team Conference standings at the end of the regular season. Beginning with the 2024 season, the SEC will eliminate divisional standings.

MGolf: Camden Smith named SEC Freshman of the Week

Smith becomes the first Bulldog to receive the recognition since Maxwell Ford did so twice during his freshman season – on Feb. 9 and Feb. 17, 2022.

“Winning this award means a lot to me,” Smith said. “It’s something I’ve worked really hard for. I think SEC golf is the best conference with the best players, and I know a lot of teams have been playing this week, so it’s pretty special to be recognized for this award. Now that we’re in the spring and the postseason coming up quickly, it shows that my game is in a really good spot right now.”

The Ponte Vedra, Fla. native carded his first top-10 finish at the Great Waters Course in Eatonton after a seven-under, 209 total. This tied his career 54-hole low, finishing tied for sixth individually with teammate Connor Creasy. The Bulldogs finished with a 26-under-par, 838 total, finishing in third place just three strokes behind Virginia.

Smith began the tournament with a pair of 69s, earning consecutive sub-70 rounds for the first time his career. The freshman’s second round of three-under was the second-best on the team as he bogeyed just one hole.  Smith finished tied for the sixth most birdies of anyone in the field with 14, also notching his third-straight top 30 finish.

“I’m excited because this gives me a lot of confidence heading into the next few events,” Smith said. “It is cool for me because I was able to go to a tournament and not only have my first top 10 but also receive this recognition for all the work I’ve put in.”

Georgia’s will next travel to TPC Harding in San Francisco as the Bulldogs will compete at The Goodwin hosted by Stanford on March 28-30.
