A Look at What’s Ahead
Georgia will return home to host the 2025 SEC Tournament at Jack Turner Stadium beginning Tuesday, May 6. The Bulldogs will begin SEC Tournament action on Tuesday in the opening round. Georgia’s seed and opponent will be determined after Saturday’s games are concluded.
Let’s Recap
Lilli Backes pitched a complete game and struck out eight batters to lift Georgia to a 5-2 win over Georgia Tech last Tuesday. Backes went the distance, working seven innings in her start. She earned her 13th win of the season. She allowed two runs on six hits, striking out eight and walking two. She was one strikeout shy of tying a season high. The Bulldog offense scattered seven hits, led by a pair of hits from Tyler Ellison and two RBI from Sarah Gordon. The top four in the Georgia order all had a hit. Georgia has now won three straight over Georgia Tech.
The Go, Go, Go’s
The trio of Jaydyn Goodwin, Sarah Gordon, and Dallis Goodnight has combined to lead the Georgia offense down the stretch of the season. The three are tops on the team in batting average, runs scored, hits, total bases, total plate appearances, and at-bats. Gordon and Goodnight lead the team with 15 multi-hit games, while Gordon and Goodwin have registered the most multi-RBI games and have each slugged nine home runs.
Dawg Walk
Graduate Lyndi Rae Davis’ 0.87 walks per game this season ranks 14th in the country and fifth in the SEC. Her 19 walks in SEC play are the third highest in the conference. She’s drawn multiple walks in a game 10 times, including three times in a game three times. In her career, her 119 walks are tied for seventh all-time at UGA. She drew 42 walks last season.
“Work While You Wait” – Tony Baldwin
Juniors Tyler Ellison and Marisa Miller have each had breakout seasons in 2025. Ellison had a combined 34 at-bats her first two years and has earned a starting role this season. Miller had just two hits in 22 at-bats a season ago in five starts. The pair is hitting .315 and .316, respectively, this season and have been mainstays in Georgia’s lineup, combining for 65 hits and 35 RBI. Ellison ranks second on the team with eight home runs.
Battle Tested in SEC Play
In Georgia’s softball’s 29-year history, the Bulldogs have never opened SEC play against three straight top-10 opponents until this season. The only time a Georgia team came close was in 2017 when UGA faced four top 25 opponents to start SEC play (No. 17, 12, 5, 3).
