Key Quotes
Ike Cousins Head Baseball Coach Wes Johnson
On Thursday’s road win…
“We win a close one every now and then, and this one reminded of the Mississippi State game on Friday night that we won 3-1 and Ryan Wynn had a big home run in that one too. Auburn’s guy (Make Marciano) was really good. He was hitting edges and mixing pitches. He left one out over the plate that Daniel Janckson got a good swing off and then (Ryan) Wynn got him late. That’s going to happen in game one of a series with two good pitchers battling. I was very proud of Joey (Volchko). They hit him a little in the first. They got three hits but just one run, but he settled in and made some pitches. Then, we flip it over to Matt (Scott), and I thought he was electric. He can get to fine at times, but tonight we wanted him to compete in the strike zone, and he ended up giving up just one infield hit and a walk.”
Ryan Wynn , Jr., 2B
On Thursday’s 2-1 win
“It shows that we’re very versatile at the plate and on the mound. The pitchers picked us up today. We were grinding out at bats against some good arms. Our pitchers held the other team down the whole game, and we can’t ask for more than that.”

BSB: Tre Phelps and Daniel Jackson Among Semifinalists for 2026 Dick Howser Trophy

University of Georgia junior third baseman Tre Phelps and catcher Daniel Jackson are among the semifinalists for the 2026 Dick Howser Trophy, it was announced Thursday.
This prestigious award in college baseball has been given to the top player, as determined by two rounds of national voting by NCBWA members, since 1987. The Dick Howser Trophy Committee, in conjunction with the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association, named the 48 semifinalists for the 2026 Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game headwear, on Thursday.
Phelps, a third baseman, and Jackson, a catcher, have helped lead fourth-ranked Georgia to a 41-11 mark and Southeastern Conference regular season title. They are two of the nation’s most dynamic players and are up for several awards.
A native of Atlanta, Ga., Phelps is batting .374 with 18 home runs and 52 RBI. He ranks second nationally with a school-record 30 hit-by-pitches, and he is fifth nationally with 70 runs scored. Earlier this year, Phelps had a 27-game hitting streak, one game short of the school record. In SEC action, he is batting 342-6-20. Overall, Phelps has started 51 games, including 43 at third base and eight at second base.
A native of Sandy Springs, Ga., Jackson ranks in the top five nationally in home runs (25), total bases (166), RBI (74), and runs scored (71) while batting .384 with 24 stolen bases. In SEC action, he is batting .373 with nine home runs and 30 RBI. Jackson has started all 52 games this season, including 42 at catcher and 10 as the designated hitter. Jackson aims to become just the sixth player (and first catcher) in NCAA Division 1 history to have 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases in a season, while only one player has ever had a 30-30 season.
This is the 39th year of the Dick Howser Trophy, and the 2026 finalists will be announced on Thursday, June 4. The winner will be unveiled on MLB Network in a special national presentation at 10:30 a.m. (EDT) prior to the Friday, June 12, news conference in Omaha at 11 a.m. (EDT) in the Schwab Field Media Room before the first game of the historic 80th NCAA College World Series.
The Dick Howser Trophy, presented by The Game Headwear, is given in memory of the former Florida State University All-America shortstop and major league player and manager who died of brain cancer in 1987. The trophy is regarded as baseball’s most prestigious award. Criteria for consideration of the trophy include performance on the field, leadership, moral character and courage – all qualities that were exemplified by Dick Howser’s life. In 2024, Georgia’s Charlie Condon earned the Dick Howser Trophy. Last season, Bulldogs Robbie Burnett and Ryland Zaborowski were semifinalists.
The SEC Champion Bulldogs close out the regular season on the road with a top-five showdown at Auburn starting tonight. First pitch of the three-game series is at 8 pm ET and will be available on the SEC Network and the Georgia Bulldog Sports Network.
BSB: Daniel Jackson Named Semifinalist for 2026 Golden Spikes Award

University of Georgia junior Daniel Jackson has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 Golden Spikes Award, USA Baseball announced Thursday.
Jackson ranks as one of the nation’s top players this season in helping fourth-ranked Georgia to a 41-11 mark and Southeastern Conference regular season title. The Sandy Springs, Ga., native ranks in the top five nationally in home runs (25), total bases (166), RBI (74) and runs scored (71) while batting .384 with 24 stolen bases. In SEC action, he is batting .373 with nine home runs and 30 RBI. Jackson has started all 52 games this season, including 42 at catcher and 10 as the designated hitter. Earlier today, Jackson was named a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, too.
Jackson aims to become just the sixth player (and first catcher) in NCAA Division 1 history to have 25 home runs and 25 stolen bases in a season, while only one player has ever had a 30-30 season. Currently, there are only two players in NCAA Division 1 who have hit at least 20 home runs and 20 stolen bases this year: Jackson and Farleigh Dickinson sophomore outfielder Hunter Ray (27-23). Jackson is the first catcher in SEC history to post a 20-20 season and just the fifth overall player in the history of the league. Before Jackson, the last SEC player to register a 20-20 season was Arkansas outfielder Andrew Benintendi in 2015.
This marks the third straight year the Bulldogs have had a semifinalist for this prestigious award that goes to the nation’s top amateur baseball player. In 2024, Charlie Condon became Georgia’s first winner of the Golden Spikes Award after a record-setting season. Last year, senior second baseman/outfielder Robbie Burnett was named a semifinalist. The 48th Golden Spikes Award will be presented on June 29 on MLB Network at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Fan voting will again play a part in the Golden Spikes Award. Baseball fans can vote for their favorite players on GoldenSpikesAward.com, beginning today with the naming of the semifinalists. USA Baseball will announce the finalists for the award on June 10, and fan voting will open again to help determine the winner before closing on June 28.
The 2026 Golden Spikes Award timeline is as follows:
• May 14: Golden Spikes Award semifinalists announced, and fan voting begins
• June 9: Golden Spikes Award semifinalists fan voting ends
• June 10: Golden Spikes Award finalists announced, and fan voting begins
• June 28: Golden Spikes Award finalists fan voting ends
• June 29: Golden Spikes Award winner announced
