The Starting Five
• Georgia returns to the friendly confines of Stegeman Coliseum on Saturday afternoon to host Tennessee Tech in a 2:00 p.m. post-Thanksgiving matinee.
• The Bulldogs are looking to extend their 32-game home winning streak against non-conference opponents. Georgia is a perfect 32-0 against non-SEC teams at Stegeman under Mike White, as well as 46-13 (.780) overall at home during these four seasons in Athens.
• Entering the weekend, Georgia is the only Power Conference team in the country with an 11-man rotation with every player logging double-figure minutes and seeing action in every game.
• As of Friday, the Bulldogs ranked among the nation’s top-10 statistically in eight categories, including leading all 365 Division I teams in both fastbreak points (27.6 ppg) and blocks (8.4 bpg).
• Georgia has topped the 90-point plateau in five of its first seven games…after scoring 90 or more points in nine of 102 games during Mike White’s first three seasons with the Bulldogs.
The Opening Tip
The Georgia Bulldogs return to action for the first time in six days on Saturday afternoon when they host Tennessee Tech at Stegeman Coliseum at 2:00 p.m.
Georgia, 6-1 on the season, is looking to bounce back from its initial loss of the campaign, a 97-94 overtime decision to Clemson in the championship game of the Shriners Children’s Charleston Classic last Sunday.
The Bulldogs are perfect against non-conference competition at Stegeman Coliseum under Mike White, a 32-0 mark during his four seasons.
Georgia features the nation’s deepest Power Conference rotation while playing at a breakneck pace among the quickest in college basketball.
Among the 79 Power Conference programs, the Bulldogs are the only ones with 11 players averaging double-figure minutes, all of whom have seen action in every game. According to the oft-used metric KenPom.com, Georgia ranks No. 5 in average offensive possession length (13.9 seconds) and No. 9 in adjusted tempo (74.5).
It would be hard to fathom a better beginning to the 2025-26 campaign for Georgia, at least statistically speaking. Entering the weekend, the Bulldogs are ranked among the nation’s top-10 teams in eight of 28 stats tracked by the NCAA, most notably leading D-I in both fastbreak points (27.6 ppg) and blocks (8.4 bpg).
Georgia’s depth is not just in numbers but also in its offensive production. Ten of the 11 Bulldogs playing double-digit minutes also have double-figure scoring outputs. Jeremiah Wilkinson paces Georgia offensively at 16.0 ppg, followed closely by Blue Cain at 15.7 ppg.
Scouting The Golden Eagles
Tennessee Tech slipped to 3-4 on the season with a Thanksgiving Eve setback at Kentucky, the alma mater of Golden Eagle head coach John Pelphrey.
Mehki Cameron leads a highly balanced offense for Tech at 12.6 ppg. Dani Pounds contributes 11.0 ppg, and JaJuan Nicholls chips in 10.7 ppg. Ja’Quavian Florence and Brandon Muntu have scored 68 and 67 points, respectively, just shy of double digits at 9.7 ppg and 9.6 ppg, respectively.
Series History With TTU
Georgia won all three of its previous meetings with Tennessee Tech, including in last year’s season opener.
In that contest, Asa Newell exploded for 26 points in his collegiate debut to lead Georgia in an 83-78 win. Newell’s performance tied Dominique Wilkins’ school record for most points by a Bulldog freshman in their first contest in Red and Black.
The other two matchups rounded out Georgia’s calendars for 1994 and 1991.
On Dec. 24, 1994, Shandon Anderson, Charles Claxton and Carlos Strong all scored 13 points apiece to lead seven Bulldogs in double figures in a 99-72 victory over the Golden Eagles at the then-Georgia Coliseum.
On Dec. 28, 1991, Litterial Green, the Bulldogs’ all-time leading scorer with 2,111 points over 126 games, put up 30 of those in a 105-90 win over Tech.
Georgia Features Nation’s Deepest Power Conference Rotation
Georgia is the only Power Conference team in the country to feature an 11-player rotation, with those players averaging double-figure MP and seeing action in every game.
Only three of the other 79 teams in the ACC, Big 12, Big East, Big Ten and SEC have 10 players who have played in every game logging 10+ mpg – Butler, Clemson and Ole Miss.
Georgia Plays At One of the Nation’s Quickest Paces
The Bulldogs’ average offensive possession length is currently 13.9 seconds, which, according to KenPom.com, ranks fifth in the nation. Conversely, teams are trying to slow down Georgia with an average defensive possession time of 17.5 seconds, which ranks No. 248 as of Friday.
The Bulldogs enter the weekend ranked No. 9 by KenPom.com in “adjusted tempo” at 74.5 possessions per 40 minutes.
