Expect Auburn to give Dawgs all they want!
For the first time since 2007, Georgia defeated Alabama in regular season play. After the game, Kirby Smart mentioned being 1-2 against Alabama in Tuscaloosa, then proceeded to ask, “What is everybody else?” This is the Bulldogs’ second straight win against the Tide, and we expect these two teams to meet again in Atlanta for the SEC Championship in December.
While this was an amazing win for Bulldog Nation, it’s time to turn our heads to the Auburn Tigers. Coach Smart often talks about humility being a week away, so there’s no reason to believe that Auburn will not give Georgia its best shot. This could be a letdown spot for the Bulldogs if they aren’t careful, as highly-ranked teams coming off a notable win can struggle the next week.
The Tigers are coming to Athens rested after a bye week, while the banged up Bulldogs just played in their most physical game of the year. Keep an eye on what Georgia decides to do at running back this week, with the group being heavily impacted by injuries. It’ll be interesting to watch Nate Frazier, as the Bulldogs expected he’d be ready to go against Alabama. He ended up not seeing the field but inches closer back to health.
These two programs might be on different levels right now, but The Deep South’s Oldest Rivalry is always a grudge match for 60 minutes. Last season, we saw Auburn fall a couple plays short of pulling off the upset against Georgia on the Plains. While the Tigers were the inferior team in that game, it goes to show that nothing is guaranteed in this historic rivalry.
This season, Auburn already has experience on the road in a top SEC environment. In their last matchup, they played a four-quarter ball game against Tennessee at Neyland Stadium, who was fresh off a heartbreaking loss to Texas. You can expect Alex Golesh’s team to be prepared for the noise in Sanford Stadium.
Hot Take of the Week:
The Georgia defense sets a season-high five sacks against Byrum Brown and the Tigers. After the unit was able to sack Keelon Russell four times last weekend, we think Brown will feel uncomfortable in the pocket and be limited as a playmaker. The front seven has seen success impacting the quarterback thus far, which is exciting to see after a down year in this category. Auburn has given up 18 sacks this season in five games, so as the defensive front continues to develop, we expect the Bulldogs to make the Tigers’ offensive line struggles continue
