Five Keys For A Dawgs Victory: Georgia vs. Charleston Southern

1

Dictate Offensively   –  It starts with the run and attacking downfield with the passing game. Georgia’s offense needs to be on high octane for this high noon start and put up some big numbers. With the Yellow Jackets on deck at the conclusion of a brutal eight-game stretch against Southeastern Conference foes, Saturday’s matchup with the Buccaneers is a golden opportunity to get everything firing and all systems moving forward in the right direction.

Be Sharp –  Yes Georgia is a heavy favorite over Charleston Southern, which has a fine program in the Big South Conference of Division I-AA (FCS). The Bulldogs could play far from an outstanding game and should still have the talent to win. Caution, remember Nicholls State in 2016. But Kirby Smart has instilled into this team the importance of playing to a standard. Georgia doesn’t need to fall off in any area against Charleston Southern.

Strike Early – In accordance with our first two keys, the Bulldogs don’t need to come out sleepy. In Georgia’s last home game against Missouri, the Dogs did and trailed 3-0 late in the first quarter before erupting for a 43-6 victory. Captain obvious, the goal is to get out to a big early lead in every game. But on Saturday, putting up big first half numbers and denying the Buccaneers any hopes of pulling off the upset would be great for eliminating any potential drama. It would also set the stage for …

Play Play Play – If Georgia can take control, the Bulldogs will have the opportunity to play a lot of players who haven’t gotten many snaps. With the four game redshirt rule that the NCAA instituted a few years ago, freshmen who have been on the scout team or players who have been battling that injury bug could have their opportunity. Offensive line, defensive line and quarterback are positions that come to mind. There’s no way to quantify just how important down the road those snaps are when the band is playing.

Sanford Strong  – Georgia has been tremendous at home this season, and has lost only once Between the Hedges since 2017. This is the final home game of the year, and it’s senior day for an outstanding group that has been a part of memorable wins and seasons. They deserve a great sendoff. Hopefully for Georgia, after Charleston Southern, there are four more wins to come. All will be championship battles if the Bulldogs take care of business. Closing the home schedule with an impressive win before a packed crowd on senior day would be a great way to head to Atlanta.
