After the excruciating months of waiting to see what our 2025 Georgia Bulldogs football team would look like, I hope everyone in the Bulldog Nation is over-the-moon satisfied.
Gunner Stockton could not have played any better and the Georgia defense was suffocating despite giving up a late touchdown that prevented a points cover in Vegas. Oh well, that’s the only thing that didn’t go perfectly this past Saturday.
Of course, transfer wide receiver and return man, Zachariah Branch deserves a heap of praise. My goodness, No. 1 has a ton of “shake and bake” which is going to be so much fun to watch all season long.
Not surprisingly, Georgia kicking legend, Kevin Butler named Branch his offensive player of the week on page 23. Everyone at Team BI is so thrilled to have KB back for another season of naming his top players each week.
Beyond the hedges, this past weekend was all-around epic in Athens. On Friday night, it was a Who’s Who event as three of Georgia’s greatest sports icons were inducted to the Circle of Honor. A huge HOORAY goes to Herschel Walker, Manny Diaz and Jeff Wallace on their inductions. BI’s Jeff Dantzler emceed the event and gives our readers (page 10) an excellent rundown of the Big Three’s accolades and accomplishments while at UGA. Wow, 70 Southeastern Conference championships and 16 national titles between the three Georgia greats!
This past Saturday’s weather was glorious, so naturally the Georgia fans packed Sanford Stadium and the eateries in Athens. There are reports of record days for shops and restaurants, which really isn’t surprising since the Bulldog Nation is the best fan base in the land. Of course they are, seeing as their beloved team just won their 32nd consecutive game in Sanford Stadium (a new Southeastern Conference record).
Enjoy our fan photos from this past weekend beginning on page 30 and ending with some Bulldogs at the Beach (page 36) who were rooting on the Dawgs by the water over the Labor Day holiday.
Next up, as our cover displays, is another Saturday in Sanford where our fans and team have an opportunity to improve their tailgating and play on the field. That’s a good thing because the road trip to Rocky Top looms large as the Vols looked mighty impressive in Atlanta thumping a solid Syracuse team.
But don’t look ahead because his issue of BI will get you ready for the Governors from Austin Peay. All of our sports pages breakdown Saturday’s game, while looking back to the Marshall victory. And I know you will enjoy our Social pages, where we feature two gentlemen from Newnan and an artist originally from Cumming (now Atlanta).
Proust Q&A (page 36) interviewee, Woody Waters talks about his competitive nature, which I know first hand from his days of whipping the football around UGA’s intramural field. However, while Woody was/is a beast when playing sports, he’s also a big teddy bear that is liked by so many. Our MIXTAPE (page 27) participant, Branch Burns, is the perfect example of what current UGA students are like in Athens these days. Super smart, while still possessing a sense of humor. And finally, you have to love that Georgia Girls participant (page 28, 29), Kristin Shearer gives Georgia credit for pulling a small town girl out of her shell to help her grow in confidence. Good stuff!
See you on Saturday as everyone in the Bulldog Nation gets to enjoy another Saturday in Sanford. Go Dawgs!!
