Game one was about showing out, game two is about the WHITE OUT!

Despite it being one of the hottest games ever on Dooley Field in Sanford Stadium, this past Saturday’s opener was epic. Just like I knew they would, our team and its incredible fanbase showed out.

Regarding the team, the talk the day after the game included words like development, efficient, crisp and more speed at every position. And then my favorite from Atlantan and Ansley Golf Club Swindleteer, Henley Hayes … ‘DAWGS look fast, pissed off, hungry and deep!”

Well said Henley and so on point.

Throughout our Sports and More Sports sections, you can read all about the 63-3 romp over Tennessee State. You will also find plenty of good content about this week’s opponent the Western Kentucky Hilltoppers.

Yes, the Dawgs first two opponents certainly don’t move the needle. However, after seeing a ton of teams’ sloppy play in week one, would you rather be stewing about that Georgia didn’t take care of business?

Game two is another opportunity to build on the fast start and dominance that occurred in game one.

Before I jump over to this issue’s social coverage, be sure to check out Max Champion’s Fast Five with former Dawgs’ quarterback Aaron Murray (page 12). I love that Aaron uses Coach Smart’s “Keep Chopping” mantra with his son who recently started cycling with his dad. No doubt, Aaron adheres to the mantra, be it with his broadcasting, leadership venture and his incredible support of ESP (Extra Special People). Also, Georgia legend Kevin Butler returns in this issue with his weekly Players of the Game (page 42). However, because so many Bulldogs got playing time in game one, KB changed things up and named Units of the Week. Well played Butt Head and welcome back to BI for another season.

Moving along, our Social Section is once again loaded this issue. The first tip of the hat must go to everyone in the Bulldog Nation who attended the Tennessee State game. My goodness, it was a scorcher, yet our stadium was packed for kickoff. Now, the heat won in the end as many fans left the game early, but believe me you would’ve too if you were there. Enjoy our fan photos from the game beginning on page 30.

All of Social Section features are back in this issue. Learn about: needlepoint enthusiast Alexandra Couturier (Georgia Girls, pages 26, 27); Proust Q&A (page 40) participant Chad Powell’s favorite class at Georgia being taught by UGA President Jere Morehead; how to make a real Bloody Mary from Trent Allen (Backstage & Behind the Bar, page 28) and that UGA Women’s Tennis Coach Drake Bernstein loves some groovy music (MIXTAPE, page 29). Nice job Drake. I love the Bob Weir track into two Grateful Dead songs and the finale with four by Goose.

This issue has a little something for everyone. And I would be remiss not to remind everyone to wear white on Saturday because it’s a Georgia WHITE OUT. This should be a blast for our players and fans.

Finally, I end on a somber note with the passing of Athenian Bobby Poss. What a gem Bobby was with his legendary story telling and always caring heart. Never once did I see Bobby without him asking how my wife, Cheri, was doing. That’s just who he was and, man oh me, he was an absolute hoot to be around. Enjoy Loran Smith’s column about Bobby and the Poss family on page 43.

Let’s WHITE OUT Sanford like none other on Saturday. See you there, Go Dawgs!!
