The Georgia rushing attack led the way for a 45-17 victory over Arkansas in Fayetteville. With this win, Coach Smart is 11-0 in SEC openers. The Bulldogs remain at No. 2 in the AP Poll ranking after another chaotic weekend across college football.
For the third straight week, the Dawgs got out to a 21-0 lead behind Chauncey Bowens’ two touchdowns in the first half. This fast start, which Dawg fans have been dying to see in years past, basically ended any hope that Arkansas had in this game. If these quick starts become the norm for this season, the coaching staff can stick to their gameplan and not have to play catch up against tough SEC opponents.
Georgia’s defense continues to impress, especially against the run. Arkansas’ leading rusher finished the game with 17 rushing yards on six attempts. Raylen Wilson and Justin Williams also combined for three sacks on the day.
Coming into this game, we expected Bobo to keep things simple and expose the Razorbacks in the trenches. However, Stockton’s team-high 97 rushing yards on seven carries was not something we were expecting. He took what the defense gave him, with one 62-yard designed rush. In addition, we saw Stockton progress through reads and decide to take off as well. Stockton also had a 61-yard touchdown completion in-stride to freshman Craig Dandridge Jr.
Dandridge Jr. is beginning to take the jump as Georgia’s biggest threat at the receiving position. He leads the team with 166 yards. Since the team lacks a standout receiver like we’ve seen in the past with Pickens, McConkey or Branch, someone needs to emerge as a top target for Stockton as the season gets going into tougher SEC opponents.
Hot Take of the Week:
Georgia holds the Oklahoma offense to 10 or less points. This may not be a steaming take, granted the Sooners scored 10 against Michigan and only 14 against New Mexico. However, the Sanford Stadium crowd should prepare to be in one of its loudest home environments of the season. We think Georgia’s first-team defense has the talent to potentially shut down this streaky Oklahoma offense under John Mateer, who some people thought would win the Heisman Trophy.
