Back in Oxford for a rematch with the Rebels
Down go the Gators, bringing in another big win for the Bulldogs in conference play. For the first time in our (the interns’) lifetimes, the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party was played outside of Jacksonville. Mercedes-Benz Stadium kept the roof closed, making it the World’s Largest Indoor Cocktail Party. It was a favorable matchup for Georgia, especially on the defensive side of the ball. Aaron Philo gifted Ellis Robinson IV an interception early, and it was all Dawgs for the rest of the game. Gunner Stockton and the Georgia offense did not exactly turn a lot of heads, but they were given a short field to work with most of the time thanks to the defense.
It’s now time to face Ole Miss, a team that has given Georgia trouble over the past few seasons. The Bulldogs are 1-2 in their last three games against the Rebels. Even though the Lane Kiffin era is over in Oxford, Pete Golding’s program is having a solid season and is looking for another win over Smart’s Bulldogs. Georgia’s last trip to Mississippi resulted in a field storming from the Rebel fanbase. It was a rainy day without much offense from the Red and Black. Jaxson Dart and Austin Simmons led the way for the Rebels then, and now they’re led once again by future first-round quarterback Trinidad Chambliss. He’s given Georgia its fair share of troubles, notably in his heroic Sugar Bowl performance last season, where he completed 30 passes for 362 yards and two touchdowns. KJ Bolden’s return against Florida made an immediate impact on the run game, shutting down the Gators’ yards on the ground almost entirely. Georgia clearly struggled without him against Auburn, and we expect him to have a big day against the Rebels.
Hot Take of the Week:
In a complete 180 from last week, we think Gunner Stockton and the Georgia offense will light it up in Oxford. We can feel a Mike Bobo masterclass incoming. With that, our hot take of the week is that Gunner Stockton will score four total touchdowns. Whether it’s by way of three passing touchdowns and a rushing touchdown, or all through the air, we predict Stockton will have a career day. Against an offense like Mississippi’s, this type of performance will likely be necessary. The Bulldogs will have to exploit the Rebels’ defense. They’ve tightened things up on that side of the ball a bit lately, giving up 15 to Auburn, 34 to Texas and 3 to Missouri over the past three weeks.
