The No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs defeated No. 10 Texas 35-10 in the first-ever meeting between the teams in Athens, powered by a career night from quarterback Gunner Stockton, who recorded four passing touchdowns and one rushing score.
Texas opened the game with a field goal to go up 3-0. Georgia answered with a 75-yard scoring drive led by Stockton, who connected with London Humphreys, Dillon Bell, and capped the drive with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Noah Thomas. Chauncey Bowens also added multiple early first-down runs as Georgia ended the quarter leading 7-3.
Stockton hit Zachariah Branch for 30 yards to set up first-and-goal, then found Thomas again for the receiver’s second touchdown, extending the lead to 14-3. Georgia’s defense added pressure with a KJ Bolden interception and a Gabe Harris Jr. sack on Arch Manning. Georgia led 14-3 at halftime.
Branch opened the half with a 43-yard kickoff return. Shortly after, Texas cut the lead to 14-10 after Anthony Hill Jr. intercepted Stockton and Manning connected with Ryan Wingo for a touchdown. Georgia converted two critical fourth downs–including one aided by a Texas offsides penalty–to maintain possession. The Bulldogs held a 14-10 lead entering the fourth.
Stockton connected with Bowens for seven yards, then hit London Humphreys for a 30-yard touchdown, pushing the lead to 21-10. Cash Jones recovered an onside kick–the Bulldogs’ first successful onside recovery since 2013. Stockton later found Bell for a first down and ran for 10 yards to set up first-and-goal. He then connected with Lawson Luckie for a 6-yard touchdown, marking his fourth touchdown pass of the night, extending the lead to 28-10. Nate Frazier added a 21-yard run, and Stockton finished the drive with a rushing touchdown for the final score of 35-10.
Defensively, Ellis Robinson IV, Chris Cole, and Justin Williams contributed key tackles, while linebacker Chris Cole led Georgia with seven tackles.
