Today marked day seven of spring practice. The media got about 10 minutes of viewing time. Here are my takeaways from the offensive side of the ball.

The first drill I was able to see the offense was running read option drills against some defensive players. They were taking reps in this particular order: Fromm, Fields, Mecole Hardman. Yes, you heard that right, Mecole was working the Wild Dawg like he did sparsely last season. The QB’s were reading the defensive ends movements and acting accordingly.

As mention in the quick notes, Fields took a brief break from the QB drills and ran ball handling drills with the running backs. He as being observed by Kirby Smart the entire viewing period and performed well making solid throws.

Receivers:

The receivers have not changed and the order went like this. 1st team: Terry Godwin, Riley Ridley. 2nd team: Tyler Simmons, Jayson Stanley. 3rd team: Matt Landers, Trey Blount. Coach Cortez Hankton had them running through fundamental drills. He made sure to work on speed and route running drills too. Not many dropped any passes during the passing drills with the quarterbacks. Godwin didn’t miss a ball and neither did Mecole Hardman. Ahkil Crumpton had a tough day, but the quarterbacks didn’t make it easy on him, especially Fields. He threw a wild pass way over Crumpton’s head, which he tried to catch but just was too high.

Offensive Line:

For the most part, not any breaking news for this position group as the rotation stayed the same across the board from left to right side. I noticed Kendall Baker get some time at left tackle too, not that he’s taking over the role, just think Pittman wants to get people uncomfortable. Some younger players were getting looks at various spots of the line like Netori Johnson at guard, and Trey Hill at center. These are some observations I saw but don’t believe that it affects the starting lineup in any way.

Practice Visitors

Two current 2019 commits were in attendance today Ryland Goede and Dominick Blaylock. Both were side by side watching practice together. Another interesting recruit was here today in running back Tyrion Davis. He is currently committed to LSU and is a 4-star recruit.
