Over at the newly-renovated Jack Turner softball facility, Georgia is off to a scorching 18-2 start, the only losses coming last week vs. Clemson and Sunday vs. Ohio State. Now, it’s SEC play as the Dawgs will host No. 7 Tennessee for the SEC opening series over the weekend. Action begins Friday at 6pm ET.
With the additions of Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC, softball is one of the strongest conference sports… but then again, the SEC is strong in almost everything. Oklahoma just hopped Texas for the No. 1 spot in the country while Texas fell to No. 2. Following the two powerhouses are four more SEC squads in the top seven. Yes, you heard that right… in the top seven, all but one spot is an SEC team, No. 4 UCLA.
All that to say, just like every other sport, it is no easy road for this 2025 Bulldog team as they face the best of the best week in and week out. Have no fear, the fourth-year head coach Tony Baldwin is no stranger to competition.
Since Baldwin took over the head coaching job in 2021, he has had three straight 40-win seasons, two straight Super Regional appearances as well as three Women’s College World Series appearances in 2016, 2018 and 2021 when he was associate head coach underneath Lu Harris-Champer.
This year seems to be trending in a hopeful lengthy postseason run as the No. 10 Bulldogs hot start has seen victories over Michigan, Michigan State, Syracuse and over Ohio State this past Saturday.
The Bulldogs’ offense has been historically high-powered underneath Baldwin and this year is no different as Georgia has outscored its opponents 137-51 thus far in 2025.
Keep an eye on Mua Williams. The freshman from Waimanolo, Hawaii is batting .306 on the year, having started all 20 games. In addition, junior Jaydyn Goodwin is having herself a year, leading the team with a .429 batting average and .794 SLG%.
“The Jack,” as Georgia has coined the term for its home stadium, is one of college softball’s best environments. Outside the fences of the Jack, the softball program received a major facelift as a $38.5 million facility down the third base line was constructed ahead of this season. The facility includes a new training facility with a four-lane batting cage, all turf infield, new weight room and locker room as well as added video, nutrition, mud and equipment rooms.
Tune into the SEC opener against Tennessee this Friday at 6pm!
