Georgia vs. Western Kentucky Preview

After one of the hottest games in Sanford Stadium history, the season has officially commenced. The Bulldogs are 1-0. It’s needless to say Tennessee State will be the lightest matchup of the season, but that doesn’t take away from the excitement that comes from the offense putting up 63 points.

Gunner Stockton’s day was short and nearly perfect, throwing only one incompletion. It didn’t matter who was under center, though, as the Bulldogs continued to march relentlessly down the field. The backup quarterback battle made for an exciting 60 minutes of football. Georgia had 15 different players with at least one reception and three quarterbacks with at least a touchdown.

After all the offseason talk about receivers, it’s reassuring to see solid performances from a multitude of faces. The trend of team ball is likely to continue down the road. It’s hard for a defense to focus on one player when everyone can make a play with the ball in their hands.

Something felt different about the mindset going into this game. This college football offseason was filled with drama, and with all the nonsense, it feels like Kirby Smart and the Bulldogs just want to play football.

It’s hard to say much about the defense yet after playing a team like Tennessee State; however, depth was swarming around the field. This group could have the “it” factor.

Western Kentucky is up next on the schedule, starting out the season 0-1 with a 35-point loss to Nevada. The Hilltoppers are the final tee up before conference play begins. Thankfully, it may be a few degrees cooler in Athens this weekend.

Ajay Allen leads the way for Western Kentucky in his fifth season of college football. Allen scored the lone two touchdowns for the Hilltoppers in their season opener. Holding onto the football proved to be one of their main weaknesses, as the team had two fumbles. The box score showed, statistically, Western Kentucky did not play poorly.

The highlight leading up to the weekend is the introduction of the all white uniform combination. It has been anticipated for years. Theories were created for when the team would wear them. They were put on full display in recruiting images. Now, they’re finally here. There’s no better time to get the crowd riled up than a week two game with an early kickoff.
