How Amarius Mims is getting the time playing time he was promised

Sophomore lineman Amarius Mims has caught quite a few eyes in the beginning of the Dawg’s 2022 campaign. It feels like ages ago since offensive lineman Amarius Mims entered the transfer portal. It caused widespread panic across the fandom. There were even questions thrown at newly crowned national championship winning Coach Kirby Smart regarding his ability to build relationships with his players. The people were doubting for a second, but of course we all know how this story played out: Georgia was able to get Mims to stay, and they more than likely offered him more game reps in the process.

But just how exactly have the Dawgs been able to get Mims that playing time he was willing to go to FSU for? Coach Smart said it himself: the o-line room is deep. But thanks to increased rotation on the offensive line, we’ve been able to see him come in and play valuable snaps early.

Against Oregon, Mims saw the field early in the second quarter, and against Samford he was deployed in the first. Keep in mind that this man Mims is only a sophomore earning himself playing time with the first team offensive line.

What kind of guy does it take to earn reps like that so early in his college career? Third-year o-lineman Brodrerick Jones helped answer the question saying, “He’s doing great… he’s evolved so much over like the past year…It was way faster than me.”

Mim’s opportunity to get involved so far has been all good and great, but these games were instances where Georgia absolutely dominated. It’s easy to take a risk and let a younger guy in Mims play when there isn’t much at stake. Against South Carolina it’ll be a little different. The Dawgs will be facing SEC competition now, so we’ll see if they continue the trend of continuously interchanging offensive lineman.

We’ll make sure to watch out for him come Saturday as this appears to be a breakout season for Amarius Mims.
