Following a terrific first season that featured both SEC and NCAA championships, University of Georgia swimmer Jake Magahey was named the Southeastern Conference Male Freshman Swimmer of the Year, as announced Wednesday afternoon by the league office in Birmingham.

Magahey earned six CSCAA All-America citations in his rookie campaign, including an NCAA title in the 500 freestyle and a second-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle. At the SEC Championships, the Dacula native finished first in the 200 freestyle, second in the 500 and 1,650 freestyle, and third in the 800 freestyle relay. His runner-up time of 4:06.71 in the 500 freestyle at SECs set a new school record and became the second-fastest time in American history, adding to school records set in the 1,000 freestyle, 400 freestyle relay and 800 freestyle relay. In the regular season, he won three individual events at the UGA Fall Invitational and 11 victories in dual competition, earning SEC Men’s Swimmer of the Week honors on Nov. 3 and Freshman of the Week honors four times.

Magahey was one of nine Georgia swimmers honored with First Team All-SEC accolades, awarded to top finishers in each event at SEC Championships. Senior Courtney Harnish and Camden Murphy received First Team honors for the third-consecutive season, while redshirt senior Javier Acevedo, junior Dakota Luther, and sophomore Zoie Hartman earned a spot for the second time. Hartman was previously presented with the Commissioner’s Trophy at the SEC Championships after posting 96 points in the meet, tying with Alabama’s Rhyan White.

The First Team roster was rounded out by senior Gabi Fa’amausili and freshmen Maxine Parker and Luca Urlando. Parker, Urlando, and Magahey were also named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, joined by Tommy-Lee Camblong, who placed fourth in the 1,650 freestyle at SECs.

Nine Bulldogs received placements on the Second Team All-SEC, led by repeater honorees Danielle Della Torre, Zach Hils, and Greg Reed. On the men’s team, senior Jack Dalmolin, redshirt sophomore Bradley Dunham, sophomores Dillon Downing, and Ian Grum made their first appearances, while junior Callie Dickinson and sophomore Jillian Barczyk debuted on the women’s team.
