Jeff Dantzler’s Top Twelve – Bye Week One

What a weekend of college football it was. There were three games that might wind up being amongst the top five of the entire season: Georgia over Tennessee, the Jackets edging Clemson, and the Aggies nipping Notre Dame. There are several open dates for the heavyweights this weekend.

  1. LSU – The Tigers took care of Florida 20-10 and host Southeastern Louisiana this Saturday.
  2. Ohio State – The Buckeyes took down Ohio University and are off this week, before heading to Washington.
  3. Miami – The Hurricanes had maybe the most impressive win of the week, downing South Florida. Now they get the Gators at home.
  4. Oregon – The Ducks rolled past Northwestern and now have an early Civil War with the Beavers.
  5. Georgia – Kirby Smart’s Bulldogs pulled out a 44-41 overtime thriller on Rocky Top. The Dogs are off this week, then host Alabama.
  6. Texas A&M – It was a tremendous win at Notre Dame 41-40. The Aggies are off Saturday, then host Auburn.
  7. Penn State – The schedule has been very soft for the 3-0 Nittany Lions, who are also off this week. Oregon comes in the following week.
  8. Texas – The Longhorns should have another tune-up victory over Sam Houston State, then the schedule turns to eight straight league showdowns.
  9. Tech – The Yellow Jackets picked up one of their biggest wins of the 21st century, downing Clemson 24-21 on a last-second field goal.
  10. Oklahoma – The Sooners are getting outstanding quarterback play. Oklahoma’s schedule is very tough. They get Auburn this week in Norman.
  11. Tennessee – It was a brutal loss for the Vols against Georgia, but Tennessee’s hopes are still alive. They get UAB this week.
  12. Tulane – The Green Wave of the American are rolling at 3-0. They head to Oxford for a big showdown against Ole Miss on Saturday
