Kevin Butler’s Players of the Game

Offensive Player

Zachariah Branch – The 5’10”, 180lb transfer from USC (no cock school) was a first timer in Sanford Stadium. In his first game for the Bulldogs he earned Offensive Player of the Week. Everyone in Bulldawg Nation anticipated a skilled, fast and physical player in Branch, and that is what they got. Getting seven touches in the game and accounting for 24.3% of the total yards—119 of 488 yards. Impressive! On offense, Zach had five targets, three catches for 95 yards and one TD. Combining those catches with his three punt returns for 24 yards, Branch paved the way for a tremendous debut. Bulldawg Nation gets excited easily and Zach will bring a LOT of excitement each and every game. Welcome to the Greatest College Town in the Nation: ATHENS!

Defensive Player

Raylen Wilson – The 6’1”, 235lb inside linebacker out of Tallahassee, Florida is another great ILB developing into one of the best in college football. Raylen plays with great intensity and awareness in a very violent area of football—the line of scrimmage—constantly snapping and filling the gaps. Saturday was a great start for Raylen recording six solo tackles along with one assist and two tackles for losses! Like I said—what a start! Not many outsiders promoted Raylen heading into the season and that’s a mistake the Bulldogs fans would never make. Raylen’s leadership is the most important quality he brings to the facility every day! Keep it up RW!

Special team Player

Drew Miller – This is always my favorite part of the game for some silly reason, but the performance of Drew Miller Saturday may have been the most important outcome performance of any player. The redshirt freshman from Mediapolis, Iowa may not be as big as Brett Thorson, but he certainly filled the shoes of the best punter in college football. Standing at 6’2”, 210lbs, Drew had an outstanding game averaging 48 yards per punt on six punts with two inside the 20-yard line. Georgia has been taking advantage of the best punting game in college the last couple of years and until Brett returns, the future looks bright with “Miller Time” punting. Advantage… Still UGA! Great job, Drew!

Unsung Hero – A True Homefield Advantage

Dooley Field at Sanford Stadium has become the hardest place to play in college football. Since Coach Smart came to UGA in 2016, the Dawgs have ripped off 32 wins in a row. The last loss came in 2019 to South Carolina. The combination of 93,033 Dawg fans and the best football program in college creates an atmosphere that suffocates opponents trying to stay over the water line. Not going to happen. The best fans in the world will help the Dawgs extend that streak all year long. Thank you Dawg fans, and I know Coach Smart thanks y’all as well.
