Offensive Player
Gunner Stockton – The junior from Tiger, Georgia continues his march toward an SEC championship and can you believe it, the Heisman trophy! That’s right folks, the Heisman Trophy. With another solid performance, Gunner led the Georgia Bulldogs to a home victory over the No. 5 ranked Ole Miss Rebels in Athens. His performance was one of his best yet as Gunner completed 26-of-31 passes for 289 yards and four TDs. Lane Kiffin was anticipating a performance by his quarterback much like Gunner delivered for the Bulldogs, but that did not happen Between the Hedges. Gunner is a Bulldog through and through and is quietly becoming one of the most efficient quarterbacks we’ve seen at Georgia in a long time. Now, Gunner has the opportunity to entertain the World’s Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party versus the hated Gators.
Defensive Player
Josh Horton – The game versus the Rebels was a battle on defense for both teams. The Rebels entered Athens averaging 515 yards per game, converting almost 50% of their third down conversions, which has been a great challenge for Georgia. Saturday our defensive player showed up as usual playing with grit and determination and never giving up. There was CJ Allen, KJ Bolden, Daylen Everette and Joel Aguero playing hard all game. The crowd inspired our defense to never give up and when we needed one play to end the game, Josh Horton got an opportunity and made the best of it on fourth down and 10 on Ole Miss’ 35-yard line. Josh pushed his way up, got up in the air and blocked their final attempted pass to end the game for the Bulldogs with a tremendous victory Between the Hedges. When we need a big play, we know we can count on our defense and Josh made it happen for us.
Special Teams Player
Peyton Woodring – There’s really not much to say about Peyton except another spectacular game. His kicking consistency is truly separating himself in the long list of great Georgia kickers. Peyton came through Saturday with three field goals and each one got bigger as the game went on in a true US open tennis match-like game. Going the distance back-and-forth and back-and-forth, waiting for somebody to break serve, Peyton gave us that opportunity when the defense finally stopped the Rebels and Georgia started to separate themselves on the scoreboard. Payton is a tremendous weapon and let’s not forget—Gunner is a tremendous holder as he made a spectacular catch and hold to help Georgia take three every time the Rebs couldn’t get seven.
Unsung Hero of the Game
Tight ends – October 18 was National Tight End Day. Most people don’t realize this national day of recognition, but tight ends certainly do. On this day we celebrate Mike Ditka’s birthday, one of the greatest tight ends to ever play the game. The brotherhood of tight ends certainly dominated the field for the Bulldogs. Our Unsung Heroes, Oscar Delp and Lawson Luckie, honored Coach Ditka and all tight ends with a tremendous performance both on the ground and through the air. Georgia’s tight end duo combined for nine catches and 85 yards and continued to dominate blocking on the line of scrimmage. As Bulldog Nation has learned, tight ends are important for two things: winning football games and looking good on the dance floor. Our boys did both against Ole Miss, and I’m sure cut the rug on the dance floor that night. Great job boys and I know Coach Ditka is awfully proud of his tight end nation.
