Doesn’t it feel great to be a Georgia Bulldog right about now?
With the sound victory over Samford this past Saturday night, our Dawgs are a perfect 3-0 through one-fourth of the 2017 regular season. While it would be great to issue out a bunch of attaboys to Kirby Smart and company, you won’t be getting any of those from where I sit.
The reason has nothing to do with the performance of our team, which has been quite solid through the first three games. Instead, my reluctance to rejoice has more to do with the fact that Georgia has yet to play an SEC game. Well, that all changes this coming Saturday night in what we at Bulldawg Illustrated are coining … Night Flight… Part Four.
For the fourth straight Saturday night game, Georgia welcomes the other Bulldogs from the SEC … Mississippi State. And the Bizarro Dawgs arrive to Athens red-hot having absolutely destroyed LSU last week in Starkville.
I must admit to having a little, internal chuckle to the many Georgia fans I encountered in the offseason that scoffed when I guaranteed that the Dan Mullen led Mississippi State team would be one of the hardest games on the 2017 docket. And a slew of season ticket holders moaned a lot about this season’s home schedule being weak. I wonder what they’re saying now about Saturday’s battle of the Bulldogs where the winner wakes up Sunday morning as a true national contender?
It’s going to be mano a mano game that pits two teams focused on playing a fast and physical brand of football. Buckle your chinstraps tightly and put on your game faces for this one.
As is always the case, our sports folks have provided some excellent insight to get you ready for the game. New to this issue on page 19, is our senior UGA student intern’s Dawg Bones page. Each week, Savannah Leigh Richardson will put her young, journalistic name on the line by rating what team has the advantage at various facets of the upcoming game. And the Dawg Bone goes to …
Speaking of aspiring scribes, our junior journalist, Hamilton Culpepper is back in this issue (page 53 ) and on our podcast channel with an excellent interview with UGA Grady School graduate, Olivia Harlan. Olivia’s booming broadcasting career has been fun to watch. We certainly appreciate her giving Hammy a few minutes of her busy schedule to participate.
On the social side of being a Bulldog, Cheri’s features touch on art, tailgating, and farming. Without a doubt, the Bulldog Nation consists of so much more than just football, so it’s a real treat for BI to have such unique offerings in each issue. And our fan photos speak for themselves. Enjoy finding friends and fans that you may know.
Finally on the right corner of this page are what appear to be a few random photos. In actuality, these are some fan shots that fell through the cracks over the last few issues. Rather than simply running them online, I told Cheri I wanted to include them and parallel our hiccups to our beloved football team.
The lesson being that three games into the 2017 season, our Dawgs aren’t perfect, much like each issue of Bulldawg Illustrated. Nonetheless, I think we continue to put a quality product on the field and in print each week.
The fun is just getting going Bulldog Nation. Let’s make Night Flight – Part Four a memorable and raucous Saturday night in Sanford Stadium. Go Dawgs!!!
