MTENNIS: 2020 Fall Schedule Announced
Manny Diaz

The Georgia men’s tennis team will compete in three fall tournaments to begin its 2020-21 campaign, it was announced Wednesday morning.

In accordance to new COVID-19 guidelines and formats put in place by the Southeastern Conference (SEC), the Bulldogs’ schedule will feature conference-only opponents. Georgia will play singles and doubles matches against players from the other participating teams at each host site.
Georgia will travel to Columbia, South Carolina, for its first two tournaments set for Friday, Oct. 2-Sunday, Oct. 4, and Friday, Oct. 23-Sunday, Oct. 25. The Bulldogs will conclude fall play serving as host of the 53rd-straight Southern Intercollegiates from Friday, Nov. 6-Sunday, Nov. 8.

The fall 2020 slate comes after a memorable spring campaign, with the Bulldogs going 7-0 at home as well as an undefeated 3-0 SEC record, prior to the COVID-19 shutdown. In addition, head coach Manuel Diaz became the winningest coach in SEC history when Georgia blanked then No. 3-ranked Ohio State, 4-0, to give Diaz his 707th career victory.

While the Bulldogs graduated three members — Robert Loeb, Alex Phillips and Sam Dromsky — they return five players featured in last season’s starting lineup. These include All-Americans Trent Bryde, Philip Henning and Tyler Zink, as well as Erik Grevelius, and Blake Croyder. Croyder will return to the courts for the 2020-21 season on a 17-straight singles win streak dating back to the 2018-19 season.

Other Georgia players returning include Alex Diaz, Britton Johnson and Baptiste Anselmo. In addition to this year’s returning players, the Bulldogs will welcome graduate student Billy Rowe (Vanderbilt University) as well as freshman Niklas von Hellens of Thomasville, Ga.
