The event was part of the school’s Meet Your Teacher date, which is held annually ahead of each new academic year. The Lady Bulldogs have adopted the fifth-grade class at Stroud Elementary and will visit the students throughout the year.

“We ask so much of the community to come support our women’s basketball program and all of our sports at Georgia,” associate head coach Karen Lange said. “We just want to have a chance to say if we are asking you guys to do this we want to do the same for you. We want to be role models for young people and show them what is possible for them. There is no better way to do that than with elementary school kids and what we are doing here today.”

Lange, along with assistant coaches Chelsea Newton and Robert Mosley, teamed with director of operations Meredith Mitchell and director of player development Kelly Mathis on Thursday. The group delivered backpacks full of school supplies to each of the students in the fifth-grade class.

According to the school’s principal, Dr. Marsha Thomas, the event was a huge hit for the students in attendance.

“The children are very, very excited,” Thomas said. “I was very excited when I saw the book bags. They are very nice, durable and personalized for the students. I think this motivated more of our parents to come out to Meet Your Teacher because we called and told them what Georgia women’s basketball was doing for them, so they have responded very faithfully. We cannot communicate to you all enough how much this means to us.”
