What life lessons did you learn while at UGA?

College is a great opportunity to reinvent yourself.

What professor did you most admire?

Curtis “Case-A-Day” Tate.  I had him for two management courses.  He lived up to his nickname.  We had to do a case study on a business every day.

What is your best memory of your years at UGA?

My freshman year in May of 1970 when the Vietnam war protests were prevalent.  When the Kent State shooting occurred, I witnessed the UGA students taking over the administration building. They closed school for two days.  In March of 1974, I took part in the 1,500 student streak for Myers Quad to Reed Quad.  Bookends to a great five years.

What do you consider your greatest achievement?

In my last quarter of undergraduate school, I signed up for a Business class and Astronomy class at the same time. Rather than drop either course, I used all four of my allowed absences from my business class to attend the Astronomy exams.  Never set foot in an astronomy lecture.  I still made two Bs.

Which historical figure do you most identify with?

Whoever put lights and baseball together for night baseball.

Who are your heroes in real life?

The Greatest Generation, the Baby Boomers parents.  The men who went all over the world fighting to give us the freedom we have today as well as the women who worked to support them. They returned home victorious, had children, moved to the suburbs, turned our enemies into allies and established many of the benefits we take for granted today.

Quote to live by:

People in glass houses shouldn’t throw parties.

What is your most marked characteristic?

I never give up friendships.  If I don’t hear from you, you’ll hear from me.

What do you most value in your friends?

Sharing laughs.

If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

Wish I hadn’t incurred all of the athletic injuries I had when I was younger as they take a toll in later years.

Who are your favorite writers?

I don’t read many books but recently I’ve read Thomas Carlyle’s Sartor Resartus and Andrew Ross Sorkin’s 1929.  Both relate to what’s happening in the world today.

Fave social media and who to follow?

I check X, Instagram, and Facebook.  On X and Instagram, I try to follow a variety of news outlets.  On Facebook, I follow friends who post pictures of themselves, children and grandchildren.
