BASEBALL: Connor Tate Earned All-South Region Honor

University of Georgia redshirt junior outfielder Connor Tate earned a spot on the ABCA/Rawlings All-South Region team, the American Baseball Coaches Association announced Wednesday.

Tate, who led the 2021 Bulldogs in batting and home runs, was an ABCA/Rawlings All-South second-team selection. He had a chance to capture the team’s “Triple Crown,” before an ankle injury sidelined him for a majority of the final seven games of the season.

Tate, who graduated in May with a degree in Sport Management, batted .344 with 10 home runs and finished second on the team in hits (65) and was third in RBI (33). His injury came when he was hit by a pitch during the Florida series.

During the season, he posted a team-high 28-game on base streak. He was named National Player of the Week and Southeastern Conference Hitter of the Week following a standout performance in the series win over top-ranked Vanderbilt in Nashville. In the series, he batted .583 (7-for-12) with two doubles, three home runs and six RBI. Twice during the year, he was a part of back-to-back-to-back home runs, something the Bulldogs hadn’t done since 1987.

In his career, Tate has appeared in 104 games with 70 starts. He has a career .313 batting average with 14 home runs and 57 RBI.

The 2021 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Div. I All-Region teams are voted on by members of the American Baseball Coaches Association. The country is divided into eight regions and the first team selections are up for All-America honors. The ABCA, founded in 1945, is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 13,000 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries.
