The Georgia Bulldogs women’s basketball team was one rebound from doubling their opponents in their dominant win over Howard by a score of 87-47.

 

The Bulldogs finished with 51 rebounds in their outstanding performance while only allowing their opponents to total 26 rebounds. Stephanie Paul played a huge role in the Bulldogs’ dominance on the boards as she was the only player to reach double digits in the category finishing with 10 coming off the bench.
 
 
The Bulldogs bench success continued in the points category as well as the team’s two leading scorers were freshman Maya Caldwell, who finished with 20, and Malury Bates, who finished with 11. The emergence of the Bulldogs talented freshman has definitely shown how deep the Bulldogs are from top to bottom and their depth alone should make them very competitive.
 
 

“Maya (Caldwell) is someone who continues to get better every time she gets on the floor. I think she has a better understanding of what we want to do conceptually offensively and defensively. It is starting to show that she has more confidence,” said Taylor. “This is one of the first games Malury (Bates) has been able to play significant minutes after coming off of her injury. The future looks bright for us in terms of our freshman.”

 
 
The Bulldogs offensive success in this game should be applauded as well as they were 35-68 from the field, which means they shot over 50% from the field. The Bulldogs clearly were taking effective shots throughout and were not forcing plays.
 
 
The Bulldogs defensive success was just as impressive as their offensive success as they forced 20 turnovers in the game. There were multiple players finishing with at least one steal and it shows the emphasis the team has placed on being active on the defensive side of the ball.
 
 

“We pride ourselves on being a good defensive team. We try to set defensive goals each quarter so once we saw the score the first quarter, allowing a lot of points, we said no more,” said Taylor. “Everything starts from the defensive end for us. To be who we want to be that’s where we have to start.”

 
 
This was an outstanding performance for the Bulldogs top to bottom and on both sides of the ball and this team has the potential to have a special season under coach Taylor.
