MGolf: Coach Haack announces 2023-24 schedule
“It’s a really tough schedule, but I think our guys will be up to the task,” Coach Haack said. “We’ll be competing against some of the top teams in the country week in, week out. We’re participating in a new tournament, our first one of the year at the Valero Texas Collegiate, and they’ll have a great field, so we’ll have a solid feel of our team after some of these tournaments in the fall. I’m really looking forward to all these events this year.”
In total, Georgia will play in six tournaments that the team participated in last season, five of which will be held on the same course.
The Bulldogs will open the season Sept. 9-11 in the Valero Texas Collegiate in San Antonio, Texas, at the home of the PGA TOUR’s Valero Texas Open, hosted by UTSA. Georgia will compete against the Roadrunners, Vanderbilt, Oklahoma, Virginia, Baylor, Georgia Southern, Louisville, Liberty, TCU, LSU and Florida Gulf Coast in the event.
The team will then join its conference brethren Sept. 25-27 for the SEC Match Play Championship hosted by the Birmingham Country Club in Birmingham, Ala. Georgia returns to the Lonestar state after competing in conference play to participate in the Ben Hogan Collegiate, which takes place Oct. 2-3 in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Shady Oaks Country Club. Georgia will wrap up the fall with a trip to Maui, Hawaii, Oct. 26-28, for the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational at Ka’anapali Golf Resort.
The Bulldogs will return to action in the spring at the Puerto Rico Classic at the Grand Reserve Golf Club in San Juan, Puerto Rico, home of the PGA TOUR’s Puerto Rico Open on Feb. 11-13, 2024. The team shot 279-285-276 for a total of 840, -24, and a third-place finish at the event in 2023. Georgia will then travel out west to Las Vegas for the Southern Highlands Collegiate at the Southern Highlands Golf Club on Feb. 25-27.
Georgia’s first in-state event will take place in Greensboro for the Linger Longer Classic at the Great Waters Golf Club on March 17-19. The team will round out the regular season playing in The Godwin at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco, home of the 2020 PGA Championship, on March 28-30, and at the Calusa Cup, held at the Calusa Pines Golf Club in Naples, Fla., on April 7-9.
The postseason will open with the SEC Championship at Sea Island Golf Club on St. Simons Island, the home of the PGA TOUR’s RSM Classic, April 19-23. NCAA Regionals are scheduled for May 13-15 at a site to be determined (Austin, Texas; Baton Rouge, La.; Chapel Hill, N.C.; Ranchero Santa Fe, Calif.; Stanford, Calif.; and West Lafayette, Ind., are the 2024 hosts). If Georgia advances from the Regional as it has done so in 22 of the last 25 postseasons under Coach Haack’s leadership, it will compete in the NCAA Championship May 24-29 at the Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif.
The Bulldogs return a group of experienced players, including graduate student and Honorable Mention All-American Ben van Wyk, graduate student Connor Creasy, senior Caleb Manuel, juniors Buck Brumlow and JT Herman, and two-time USGA Four-Ball Semifinalist sophomore Carter Loflin. Georgia has also brought in a pair of transfers in Beck Burnette from Lee University, where he was a Division II All-American First Team member, and senior George Langham, an NAIA First Team All-American from College of Coastal Georgia. Incoming freshman Camden Smith will also join the team for the upcoming season. Smith was the highest-ranked golfer in his home state of Florida and graduated from Ponte Verde High School.
