The Georgia Football team has definitely shown a huge improvement from their 8-5 record of first year, but head coach Kirby Smart says that his team is not ahead or behind schedule in terms of success.
Smart went on to say that there is no set schedule for success, but rather it is the job of the coaching staff to get as much as they can out of each and every team. Smart has to be pleased with the job the staff has done thus far as they will compete for the SEC championship and a potential playoff spot.
“I’ve repeatedly said the same thing, there is no schedule for winning championships,” said Smart. “So the objective is to get the most out of every team that we can, and that’s what we tell our coaching staff every week. Our job is to prepare them to be the best they can in the game to get the most out of them.”
The culture that Smart has created around the program in such a short period of time is noteworthy for sure but it does not mean that the team is on or off schedule in their pursuit of success. Smart’s repeated admittance that there is no schedule has led to him allowing the media to come up with a timetable for when should success occur.
“But I think everybody wants to say that this is the schedule. There is no schedule. The only thing there is is what you have and what you do with what you have,” said Smart. “So I’m going to leave it to you guys to decide what the schedule is or what the term is, because that’s what you guys do. That’s not really for us internally.”
Regardless of what the spectators may believe the schedule should be for eventual success for the Bulldogs, this team has been impressive and this should be a season that coach Smart can build on for the future of the program.
