Spring football may be over for the University of Georgia football program, but that is certainly not the case when it comes to recruiting. The Dawgs are steaming down the track with the throttle on full when it comes to college football recruiting with Head Coach Kirby Smart at the helm. No other college football program may have the momentum that UGA is enjoying at the moment.

Georgia’s G-Day game on Saturday over the weekend had a huge impact on recruiting as we saw four-star 2017 cornerback William Poole III commit to UGA right before the game, and yesterday, the Bulldogs picked up their eighth commitment for the recruiting class of 2017 when Netori Johnson announced his decision to go with the guys in the red and black.

Prospects were blown away while visiting Athens over the weekend and witnessing the historic turn-out at Sanford Stadium at G-Day, and it didn’t hurt that the Dawgs were putting on a show for all the college football world to see with freshman quarterback Jacob Eason showing off his arm. It was enough to impress 2017 wide receiver Jeremiah Holloman that he named the Bulldogs his new leader on Sunday, the day after the game.

Another 2017 wide receiver, Nico Collins, came away “loving” his visit to UGA in an interview with Jeff Sentell from the AJC:

“I am thinking a lot of good things about Georgia right now,” Collins said. “The atmosphere there is just crazy. I am loving everything down there right now. The quarterback situation. The coaching staff. Just the way they do things. (UGA receivers) coach (James) Coley is a crazy dude. He’s fun to be around. You can have fun with him on and off the field. You can talk about anything with him. He seems like a pretty cool dude all the time to me.”

2017 offensive linemen Caleb Chandler Tweeted out that he “enjoyed every bit” of his experience:

And Chandler wasn’t alone.

What’s next for the Bulldogs? Whose next up to the plate to announce their commitment?

William Poole stated that Georgia had 10 silent commitments on Periscope on Tuesday. Could any of those make their commitment public? It would not surprise me to see a couple of more commitments in the next week or two from G-Day; possibly one from the class of 2017 and one from the class 2018. Malik Herring, a 2017 DE, is certainly on commit watch. And 2016 wide receiver Demetris Robertson is supposed to make his announcement on May 2nd in less than 2 weeks. Regardless if Georgia picks up any more commitments this week or even next week, the impact of G-Day on recruiting will be felt far and wide for some time to come.

And what does UGA do to follow up a record-setting G-Day that blew the doors off the Classic City with at least two big time commitments, a number of silent commits, and visiting coaches and prospects still picking their jaw up off the field? With Head Coach Kirby Smart as the conductor of this Georgia recruiting train, hold on to your hats boys and girls because it is going to be one fun ride when it comes to recruiting.

TtownDawg  Aye Ttown. I thought 2016 NSD had the chance to be a top 5 class, but that was before the coaching changes. Of course, Georgia could still end up having a top 5 overall class for 2016 come May 2nd depending on D-Rob does, and Mykelle McDaniel has Georgia in his top 3 too.

But 2017, man oh man. It really has a chance to special if this momentum that Kirby Smart and company have built maintains through the summer and into the fall.
