TODAY’S FEATURED PROSPECTS

Georgia currently has 10 commits for the 2019 recruiting class. The Bulldogs finally added its 2019 quarterback prospect with John Rhys Plumlee on June 15. Then, four-star offensive tackle Xavier Truss committed to Georgia on June 17. With these two commitments, Georgia is No. 15 in the overall rankings and No. 7 in the SEC. It’s still fairly early in the 2019 recruiting cycle, however, these three guys could be the next additions. Again I don’t know exactly when these guys plan to commit to schools, but these are three guys who I believe will pull the trigger sooner than later. Like I do with my class predictions, I’ll rank on a scale of three the confidence of them picking Georgia.

Despite only three listed below, I believe there are two more guys just waiting for the right moment. I chose these three because in the last few weeks have told folks that their decision is close. So despite just having three below, there are at least two more that could pull the trigger in Georgia’s favor as well.

Jermaine Johnson

CLASS: 2019

POSITION: WDE

HT, WT: 6-6 250

SCHOOL: Independence Community College

CITY, STATE: Eden Prairie, MN

STATUS: Undeclared

CONFIDENCE LEVEL: 3/3

NEWS:

Jermaine Johnson is one hot prospect out of the junior college spectrum. He’s a four-star and ranks as the No. 5 overall JUCO prospect, the No. 2 WDE and the No. 3 MN player. Johnson currently holds 21 offers with the latest coming from Oklahoma on June 19 while he was on an unofficial visit. In the last few weeks he went to Oregon on June 22, Oklahoma on June 21, Texas on June 16, Texas A&M on June 15, Colorado June 8, Arizona on June 6, Minnesota on May 23 and Georgia on May 18.

Johnson released a top five on July 9. The top five includes Georiga, Oregon, Oklahoma, Texas, and UCLA. I like Georgia’s chances here as he fits a mold that the Bulldogs like to have as a linebacker and defensive end hybrid. Johnson’s smart and size alone make him a hot commodity, however, the Bulldogs are selling something special here and I think he ends up in Athens after its all said and done. I give Johnson a 3/3 here because Georgia is a perfect place for him to gain two years of experience and do it at a high level. Granted the other schools offer that too, but Johnson just seems to fit into Georgia’s scheme perfectly. It wouldn’t surprise me if he didn’t pull the trigger in the next two weeks.

Warren McClendon

CLASS: 2019

POSITION: OL

HT, WT: 6-5, 290

SCHOOL: Brunswick High School

CITY, STATE: Brunswick, Georgia

STATUS: Undeclared

CONFIDENCE TO COMMIT: 2/3

NEWS:

Warren McClendon appears high on Georgia’s list for the offensive lineman in the 2019 class. McClendon’s recruitment seems to be between Georgia and South Carolina. He told me in an interview that South Carolina and Georgia are two of his official visits.  McClendon hasn’t released any top schools yet, but the three above seem to be it. He currently holds 22 offers and ranks as the No. 27 OT and the No. 27 prospect in Georgia.

McClendon participated in the Opening finals in Texas. The offensive tackle’s been all over the SEC the last few weeks. He recently visited Florida on April 6. Prior to that, he went to South Carolina on March 30. I expect him to visit Georgia soon if not in the next few weeks.  McClendon received a 2/3 on my scale. However, he does have ties to both Georgia and Sout Carolina. HIs uncle is former UGA running back Willie McClendon and his cousin Bryan McClendon is a former UGA wideout and now South Carolina assistant coach.  So this decision could go either way.

Travon Walker

CLASS: 2019

POSITION: DT

HT, WT: 6-4, 255

SCHOOL: Upson-Lee High School

CITY, STATE: Thomaston, Georgia

STATUS: Undeclared

CONFIDENCE TO COMMIT: 3/3

NEWS:

Travon Walker is one hot commodity in the 2019 class. He’s the No. 28 overall prospect, No. 2 DT and the No. 7 prospect in Georgia and only holds 14 offers. According to his social media, he hasn’t released any top schools, however, he did in our interview. Walker told me that Clemson, Georgia, Alabama and South Carolina are his final four, but none of them hold an advantage. He mentioned that his final school must have a good business or sports medicine program. Walker likes Tray Scott and thinks he’s a great coach. He says that Georgia contacts him on a daily basis and tell him he has the chance to make a big impact. Despite having a top-four, Georgia appears to be the leader, and as a homegrown kid, it wouldn’t surprise me for Kirby Smart and Scott to reel in this one.

The recruitment appears to be between South Carolina and Georgia. Walker told me he talks to Nolan Smith every day. Smith is one of Georgia’s 2019 commits and a vocal recruiter for the Bulldogs. Walker seems to have a great relationship with him, so only time will tell if he chooses Georgia. However, it’s closer than we think between USC and UGA. Despite the closeness, I give him a 3/3 on the confidence scale because I think he’s made up his mind. He’s just waiting for the right moment to commit.
