1mandawgpack dsw61 PTCDawg The hitch you speak of in Furyk’s swing is him externally rotating his back arm as he transitions from the back spring to the down swing. The external rotation is actually a good thing. It looks different because his back swing is very steep. Regardless, a hitch in a golf swing is meaningless because the ball is sitting motionless and there’s no timing involved.
Freeman’s batting stance…or any other hitter’s batting stance…has nothing to do with the plane of their swing. Freeman’s uppercut swing is due to how much shoulder tilt he chooses to use. Agree he has too steep of a swing. I don’t care for his stance either, but the batting stance is a style choice. The batting stance is just a starting point. The sequence is the important part and as long as a batter can get themselves into the proper hitting position at heel plant…with proper timing…it really doesn’t matter where they start from. He has a .283 career batting average and only 120 HRs. Not HOF numbers. He might want to consider changing his swing.
Not sure what your point is with Bird’s jump shot. I don’t know enough about basketball shooting technique to comment; but based on what kids get taught in hitting and throwing, I suspect what kids are taught about shooting a basketball is probably wrong.
Lambert’s long throwing motion allows defenders more time to react. I always think is throwing motion is directly related to his tendency to throw the ball low.

You have my 100% agreement on two things (one of which you pointed out) – 1) our offense in general was awful last year, particularly in the second half of the season, and 2) Chubb is clearly, clearly a special talent as our offense was equally as inept in the first half of the season, but his ability to break tackles and get yardage out of nothing made it appear that we had a serviceable offense. When he went down, there was no ability to hide the elephant in the room any longer.

Frankly 1mandawgpack Everyone is entitled to their opinion, certainly, but I’m just pointing out that what we as fans see is less than 1% of what the coaches see in terms of which of our 3 QB candidates is best suited to help us win football games, so it’s utterly ridiculous for posters on here (including myself) to conclude which QB gives us the best chance of winning. Ramsey has all the physical tools, but that’s only a small percentage of what’s necessary to be a successful QB (leadership skills, watching and breaking down films of opponents, etc.) and it’s the other required attributes that have held him back, as I understand it from an extremely reliable and trustworthy source in Athens.
Look, I’m as excited about Eason as everyone else, but if the coaches determine that he doesn’t have the maturity, grasp of the offense, etc. to put us in the best position to win, then I completely trust their judgment. I’m also a bit weary of people pointing to last year’s performance by Lambert as to why he’s not our best option. If we had the same staff back, I might be more inclined to agree with that assessment, but there is a completely different staff now so everything is back to square 1 in evaluating what we have vs. what we need at the QB position. Regardless of the starter, assuming that Eason doesn’t absolutely bomb in Fall camp, I think he gets some meaningful playing time this year as we have to begin to prepare our QB for next year, and he’s likely that guy as it currently stands.
1mandawgpack dsw61 PTCDawg Excellent points 1Dawg… The one thing I think everyone can agree upon is the total dysfunction and ineptness of our Offensive staff last season. The drop off from previous season to last season was unexplained for most of us. I too will trust our staff to make the decision they feel is best for our team and I will support whomever trots out there on any given down like no body’s business! We are 12 days away from PRACTICES beginning!

Greg Poole Thanks for the update on Bob and his wife. I was thinking & praying for them the other day. As so many of us know, cancer sucks. I thankfully got a good report from blood work up just this morning and am thankfully getting further from my own awful experience. Thanks again. Will be great to have Bob back.

Jim Furyk has made tens of millions of dollars with a “hitch” at the top of his golf swing that is both unnatural and certainly not a template that you would use to teach a beginning golfer how to swing a golf club. You would never teach a kid to shoot a basketball over his head like Bird did, but he’ll be remembered as one of the greatest shooters of all times in the NBA. Freddie Freeman’s stance in the batter’s box is horrendous and results in his big uppercut swing, but he’s been an all-star first baseman several times. Many people do things that aren’t perfect from a “form” perspective, and are successful doing them.
As for your “read” defenses comment, we had a) a mediocre OL last year and b) no real threat at WR other than MM, so defenses packed in and dared us to beat them stretching the field, which we couldn’t given a) and b) above, among others ([part of which could have also been Lambert’s fault). Please go back and watch the Florida game last year and you’ll note that Bauta made mostly good reads on his passes and 2 of his interceptions were because the WR had no idea how to run the route. On Bauta’s first interception, he threw the ball where IM should have been, but instead of squaring his route between the LB drop and safties, IM drifted straight into the safteties (and was floating backwards and couldn’t make a play on the pass that Bauta threw to the correct location in the zone). On the incompletion to Rome (that would have been a TD and might have changed the momentum in the game), Bauta threw the ball right down the seam as there was no safety in the middle of the field, and instead of running to green grass, Rome’s pattern drifted into the zone that the CB was covering. As a result, the pass fell incomplete and the idiot announcers threw Bauta under the bus for a poortly thrown ball.
Our offense was completely inept last year for all of the reasons I mentioned in my first post above, so again, we have very capable offensive coaches now, so let’s give them a chance to develop these young men instead of continuing to pass judgment based upon a situation that was a complete disaster last year. If Chaney believes that Eason gives us the best chance to win this year, then I’m all in supporting Eason. I just think that far too many posters on here like to blame Lambert for our offensive woes last year, and only a small part of them were his fault or things he could control.

The OL play is not Lambert’s fault but there are QBs that can still make plays even when everything doesn’t go as planned. It is nothing personal against Lambert but simply that many believe (myself included) that there are more talented options available.
Just as you acknowledge the shortcomings of the OL & WR why it is a problem to also admit that there were also issues at QB?
The QB that the staff feels gives UGA the best chance to win will start and that may still be Lambert but there is no debating that he struggled mightily last year.
PTCDawg I don’t recall anyone saying Lambert shouldn’t suit up. Lambert gets by mostly on intellect. He has a high football IQ. From a mechanics perspective he has an unusually long throwing motion because he wraps the ball behind his head as his forearm lays back during the “whip” part of the throwing motion. The forearm laying back is normal, but the position of the ball in relationship to his head is unusual. I’m talking maybe 4 to 6 inches, which may not seem like much, but in actuality it makes a significant difference. He isn’t very mobile which is a serious handicap in college football. Despite his high football IQ, he still makes his fair share of poor reads. Makes me wonder how well he sees the field or processes information.
He has the highest football IQ of the three, but the worst mechanics and least mobility.
Frankly Ok. The kid played receiver in high school. He’s fast for a guy his size and runs good routes. We’re also stacked at even TE without him there and have a largely unproven WR group. There were a bunch of guys who played well at WR during the spring game but that means next to nothing. Heard of a guy Jonathon Rumph? He was all set to be our stud 6’5″ go to guy after the spring game a few years ago if you listened to post G-day hype. I think he had something like 18 catches in two years.

We are all just having fun and getting excited. If our criticism of Lambert rattles him or bothers him in the least bit, then he shouldn’t be a QB. I appreciate the effort he has given our Dawgs and the time will be priceless to him and even our pwo who never see the field.

Bulldawg36 I came through SC July 4 weekend after preaching my mom’s funeral in South Georgia. The hundreds of trips I have made through that God-forsaken land the last 5 years or so with both parent’s illnesses and deaths, I have concluded that the only thing SC is good for is to provide a peninsula between my home in NC and my farm in Georgia. Good luck getting outta there.

So I’d also suggest looking at our OL the second half of the year as well as we couldn’t throw or run the ball, which I suppose is also Lambert’s fault.
My suggestion is this – please stop using last year as the basis of comparison for Lambert. Our OL was mediocre at best, we had young athletes (instead of true WR) who ran awful patterns at WR, we lost our star RB mid-year, we had an OC who I’m convinced was never given a true chance to implement his system, and yet our total lack of offensive productivity rests squarely on Lambert’s shoulders, which is completely absurd.
I’m not promoting Lambert to be the starter, but apparently the vast majority of posters on here are much more capable of knowing the QB that will give us the best chance of winning without having attended a single film session, practice, etc. why don’t we let the coaches do their jobs and give all these kids the opportunity to prove themselves under a different system before passing judgment.

Wow! Woerner looks bigger than any of the others and he just got on campus. With his athleticism he is going to be a tough match-up.
PTCDawg Not sure I have read anyone slamming Lambert, I know I have stated over and over again that I believe Eason should start and I am still leaning that way today, but I have also stated almost every time the issue has been discussed that I believe Lambert can and will be an invaluable asset and that I appreciate everything he did for our team from the time he arrived late last summer. The question for me is the same one that kirby has to answer and he will have a MUCH better chance of answering it since he is directly involved with the players and I am not. Who give us the best chance to win… IMO the answer is Eason for reasons I’ve stated many times. If Kirby feels that Lambert is the best option come Sept 3, I will support him 100% and I do believe he can win the UNC game as our QB.
The concern I have with Lambert and our entire offense last season was 3rd down conversions. The statistics are horrendous and I know that’s not all on Lambert, but I also did watch the Vanderbilt game where we/Lambert and co were 0-7 on 3rd downs in the first half. Look back at the Gs. Southern game and the Missouri game, our 3rd down percentage was terrible. Now again, that is not all on Lambert, but like DSW and others have mentioned, mobility is not a strong point for Lambert, yes his is consistent and no he doesn’t throw a lot of interceptions. But, there are times when we will need a QB that can carry us and make plays that we just didn’t see last year and that is one of my reasons for predicting Eason. He’s gonna make mistakes I know, but hopefully by the UTk, Ole Miss, and most importantly for me, the Florida game he is approaching his potential!
