Greg is closing in on 15 years writing about and photographing UGA sports. While often wrong and/or out of focus, it has been a long, strange trip full of fun and new friends.

Greg Poole Now thats a tough one. I think that Holyfield may be the most talented of the bunch but Crowder has had more time in the system. Herrien may be a diamond in the rough. Time will tell but my guess is Holyfield.

BenKellam MMCSDAWG dsw61 Greg Poole Me too!!!  i think we saw a lot in the spring game to be excited about not only from Eason, but from Chaney and his use of formations and specifically his use of TE’s split out and off the LOS.  He has a lot of tools in his tool box and I expect he will use them all, but with a certain amount of caution or conservatism while breaking in our new QB!  The nice thing is we will have Chubb, Michel and a Pittman coached line to fall back on!!

MMCSDAWG dsw61 Greg Poole So what I’m hearing is that Eason is gonna go like 35-40 with ~25 of those going to tight ends up the middle and the rest being long bombs to Godwin and Ridley. I’m ok with this.

dsw61 Greg Poole And if Chubb and Michel are both healthy and playing, that’s the reason I believe Eason will start against UNC…  Your right, they are going to be worried about our running game and starting 2 new LB’s, they will be easily distracted and prone to mistakes in the play action passing game.  Reverse out of the play action and connect with one of our TE’s on a 8-12 yds drag route.  I could see that being a bread and butter play against UNC while still pounding the ball down their throats, they haven’t proven to be very good against the run.

Greg Poole  I won’t be surprised if Lambert starts against UNC. With that said, I have to believe that Chaney is looking at UNC’s lack of experience at linebacker and how Georgia’s TEs could be a match-up problem for them. TEs are big targets and usually involve shorter, easier throws that don’t require much protection from the O-line. Seems like a potential opportunity to put Eason in a situation to be successful.

Bulldawg36 Me too brother!   Nothing says we can’t win that many, but I will be disappointed in anything less than 9 barring injury.

  7. BenKellam

dsw61 BahitsDawg I kinda like it. Its fun when they have so much hype during the offseason because then we all get to watch them fall flat on their faces during the season.

BenKellam dsw61 BahitsDawg Some of their fans are holding out hope that Warrior was being sarcastic with that tweet…which is one way it could be interpreted; but the truth probably follows Occam’s Razor:
“The simplest explanation is usually the correct one”.

BahitsDawg I don’t think I’ve ever seen a fan base that thinks more one dimensional than Vol fans. It’s as if the Vols exist in a vacuum, where no other teams in the SEC are improving….capable of evaluating talent…have good coaches…can coach up players…as well as Butch.

  10. MMCSDAWG

Greg Poole Pretty much what I would define as success as well…  9 wins is definitely achievable and pretty much my expectation as well, barring major injuries!

  11. DawgDaddy

MMCSDAWG I kind of try to ignore that part but it is getting dang near impossible to do now.   Go get ’em CKS!

@36 the only problem with hunkering down at my age is hunkering back up again…. 🙂

  13. BenKellam

dsw61 BahitsDawg That tweet was pretty much not open for interpretation. Pretty straight forward.

  14. Greg Poole

I suspect Jacob Eason, the touted true freshman quarterback, will be the Dawgs starter sooner than later even if it’s not in the opener against UNC. He’s talented, but keep in mind that unlike some other also hyped true freshman QBs, Eason didn’t quite face the same level of competition in high school these other guys did. Adjusting to the speed of the SEC could take more than many expect.
If Nick Chubb is back to 100 percent, the offense should still be formidable, although they do have to fill some holes on the O-line and there is pressure for a new No. 1 WR (Terry Godwin?) to emerge. Maybe 6-5 JC transfer Javon Wims can be that guy.
Losing to any ACC team that isn’t Clemson or Florida State in Atlanta won’t look good to UGA fans, but UNC is underrated. I still think the Dawgs win, but the double of at Ole Miss and then Tennessee is much trickier. My hunch is Georgia opens 3-2, but after that things ease up a bunch. They get Auburn and Georgia Tech in Athens and Florida is a fringe top-25 team this year. I’ll say anything less than nine wins would be disappointing.

BahitsDawg Kipps Adams and Jake Rowe have put in crystal balls since the J.R. Reed news broke. Vol fans are hilarious. They’re debating stuff like the meaning of Nigel Warrior’s emoji in his tweet yesterday.

  16. MMCSDAWG

BahitsDawg I read somewhere, that a major Crystal Ball came our way shortly after the news was reported!

  17. BahitsDawg

Any word from rocky flop fans after the announcement of J.R. Reed becoming a dawg?

How are the crystal balls looking for Gibbs?  Any changes?

Bansai buckeroo LOL, been there.  I retired in Nov 2007 and by March of 2008 I had lost a third of my savings.  That was rough.
