The seventh ranked University of Georgia gymnastics team fell to No. 4 LSU, 197.900- 196.325 at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center on Friday night.
“It certainly was not our night,” Georgia head coach Courtney Kupets Carter said. “There are a few highlights that I am proud of. Emily Schild had a great bars routine and it was a big step for her. Vault was steady and we are improving on the landings. Rachel Baumann was beautiful on floor. Her 9.900 is something we knew would come. Every event has not come together on the same night but when they do it is going to be an amazing night and that is what we are hoping for at the end of the year. This is a strong team.”
The GymDogs struggled on bars to start the meet, scoring a 48.600. Emily Schild matched her season-high with a 9.850 to lead Georgia for the event. Sydney Snead followed with a 9.825.
Snead scored a 9.925 to lead the GymDogs to a 49.250 on vault and freshman Rachael Lukacs scored her fifth-consecutive 9.900 (or better). Freshman Abbey Ward and junior Sabrina Vega both contributed 9.825’s.
Freshman Rachel Baumann and Vega posted 9.900’s on floor, marking a season-high for Baumann. Snead and Lukacs scored 9.875’s to add to the GymDogs total of 49.325 for the rotation.
The GymDogs closed out the meet with a 49.150 on beam. Vega led the squad with a 9.950, followed by a 9.925 by Marissa Oakley. Snead contributed a 9.875 and Mikayla Magee added a 9.725. In her beam debut, freshman Lukacs scored a 9.675.
