[su_spacer size=”20″] The Georgia softball team had five players earn a spot on an All-SEC Team, it was announced today, May 5, by the league office. Alex Hugo was named to the All-SEC First Team, while Chelsea Wilkinson, Sydni Emanuel and Tina Iosefa each earned second team honors. Cortni Emanuel was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team.
[su_spacer size=”40″] For the second-straight year, Hugo earned a spot on the All-SEC First Team as an infielder. The junior led the conference in home runs with 19 and ranked among the SEC leaders in several offensive categories. In SEC games, the Olathe, Kan., native hit .343 with 23 hits, including three triples and nine home runs, while driving in 22 RBI. She led the team with a .791 slugging percentage in SEC games. Hugo drew 15 walks, seven of which were intentional, and struck out just three times in conference games. For the year, Hugo finished with 19 home runs, the most of any SEC player, and hit at a .403 clip. She was named the SEC Player of the Week once.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Wilkinson picked up her second-straight All-SEC nod, earning second team honors as a pitcher. Wilkinson finished the regular season with a 24-8 record that included an 8-5 mark in conference games. She posted a 2.64 ERA in SEC games, allowing 36 earned runs in 95.1 innings of work. She averaged one strikeout per inning pitched, picking up 95 strikeouts against SEC teams. In SEC games, she threw 10 complete games, three complete-game shutouts and combined for one more. She ranked in the top-10 in ERA, opposing batting average, innings pitched, strikeouts, strikeouts looking and wins. For the season, Wilkinson posted a 2.11 ERA and struck out 227 batters, while hitters hit just .183 against the right-hander. She twice earned SEC Pitcher of the Week honors.
[su_spacer size=”40″] In her first season with the Red and Black, S. Emanuel earned a spot on the All-SEC Second Team as an outfielder. She started all 23 conference games for the Bulldogs, hitting .338 with a team-best 25 hits, including three doubles and a triple. She also scored 16 runs, walked 13 times and had an on-base percentage of .438. The sophomore from Missouri City, Texas was 6-for-7 in stolen bases in SEC games. For the year, S. Emanuel led the team with a .437 batting average. She led the team with 69 hits and 54 runs scored. She was second on the team in walks during the regular season with 23 and boasted an on-base percentage of .511. She was 22-23 on the base paths in the regular season.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Iosefa was named to the All-SEC Second Team as a DP/Utility player after spending team as a DP and first baseman. The junior hit at a .322 clip in SEC games, recording 19 hits, including four doubles and five home runs, while driving in 14 RBI. She also scored 10 times. The Lynwood, Calif., native slugged .644 and posted an on-base percentage of .420. For the season, Iosefa hit .353 with 41 hits, 10 doubles, one triple and seven home runs.
[su_spacer size=”40″] C. Emanuel rounded out the All-SEC nods for the Bulldogs, as she earned a spot on the Freshman All-SEC Team. In her first year at Georgia, C. Emanuel hit at a .316 clip in SEC play, registering 24 hits and scoring 13 runs. She made her presence known on the base paths, finishing tied for second in stole bases in conference games with eight. She earned SEC Freshman of the Week once this season after stealing 12 bases and hitting .778 in six games during the opening weekend of play.
