Junior Maeve McGuire registered a RBI for the third-consecutive game at the Women’s College World Series, but Georgia’s offense never found a rhythm as the Bulldogs (46-19) fell to LSU (52-17) by a 4-1 final score on Sunday afternoon at ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
 
 
The loss ends the season for the Bulldogs after Georgia had become the first 16 seed since Hawaii in 2010 to reach championship competition in Oklahoma City, and 2016 marked the third time that the Bulldogs reached the Women’s College World Series.
 
 
LSU got on the board in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer from Bianka Bell to seize the upper hand in the elimination game.
 
 
Still trailing 2-0 after three innings, the Bulldogs cut the deficit in half thanks to a RBI from McGuire to bring in Alyssa DiCarlo, who started the inning with a single. Alex Hugo’s double with one out then set the stage for McGuire, whose groundout brought in the run to reduce LSU’s lead to 2-1.
 
 
LSU restored the two-run cushion in the fifth as Bell once again went deep, this time with a solo homer to put the Tigers ahead 3-1 as the game shifted to the late stages.
 
 
The Tigers then added on in the sixth, pushing its lead to three runs after capitalizing on a RBI single from Constance Quinn for the decisive 4-1 final score.
