The Georgia swimming and diving teams will open the home portion of the 2017-18 schedule on Friday as they entertain North Carolina. The meet at Gabrielsen Natatorium inside the Ramsey Center will begin at 3 p.m.

There is no cost for admission. Free pizza will be given to the first 100 UGA students and there will be an enter-to-win contest for a student to win an Apple Watch.

The Lady Bulldogs are ranked No. 4 in the preseason TYR / CSCAA Division I poll, trailing No. 1 Stanford, No. 2 Cal and No. 3 Texas. The North Carolina women are ranked 22nd. On the men’s side, the Bulldogs are No. 8, while the Tar Heels are unranked.

Georgia’s squads are off to 1-0 starts after dispatching Emory in Atlanta last week in a relays meet. Georgia’s divers will make their season debut Friday as the Emory meet featured only swimming. This will mark the season opener for North Carolina.

Despite holding a 42-4 career mark against the North Carolina program, Jack Bauerle, Georgia’s Tom Cousins Head Swimming and Diving Coach, anticipates a hard-fought meet on Friday.

“North Carolina gives us all we want each season,” Bauerle said. “They give us fits. They’re always ready to go, and we learn a lot about ourselves swimming them. The meets traditionally have been close and challenging. I have a tremendous amount of respect for their program. We know we will see some competitive races, so we will have to be at our best. We got better last week at Emory. It was good to get to do some racing. We’re looking forward to competing even more against North Carolina.”
