[su_spacer size=”40″] UGA Tennis – The Georgia men’s team won a total of seven matches on the first day of the Bulldog Scramble Friday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Nick Wood and Walker Duncan led the way with a doubles victory and a pair of singles wins, while Wayne Montgomery and Andy Martinez also recorded singles wins in the afternoon round.

“Overall it was a good day,” said UGA associate head coach Bo Hodge. “Doubles was a little disappointing. Wayne and Emil (Reinberg) had some chances, and they were up 6-2 in the tiebreaker and unfortunately didn’t come away with the win. Emil was a little bit under the weather, so we sat him this afternoon and hopefully he’ll come back strong tomorrow. Walker came through and won his match and the end, and that was a a good effort for a freshmen. The other guys took care of business. Nick Wood was very impressive today, and it was good to see him come out with two wins. We’ll look to build on it tomorrow.”
[su_spacer size=”40″] In the morning session, Duncan and Wood won their doubles match against Notre Dame’s Grayson Schnurrenberger, 6-1, while Wayne Montgomery and Reinberg were edged by Georgia Tech’s Casey Kay and Michael Kay 7-6(9).
[su_spacer size=”40″] In singles, Wood and Duncan both notched victories against their Notre Dame counterparts. Wood downed Eddy Covalschi 6-2, 6-2, while Duncan topped Schnurrenberger 7-6, 6-3.
[su_spacer size=”40″] The Bulldogs were a perfect 4-0 in the afternoon round. Montgomery earned a 7-5, 6-4 victory over Harvard’s Kenny Tao, Wood downed Brian Yueng of Harvard 6-1, 6-2, Duncan outlasted Michael Kay, 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 and Martinez claimed a 6-2, 6-4 win over Havard’s Conor Haughey.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Meanwhile in New York, Austin Smith fell to Texas A&M’s No. 53 Arthur Rinderknech, 6-3, 7-6(5) in the round of 16 of the USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships. Smith was scheduled to play a consolation doubles match with Ben Wagland later in the day on Friday. Check GeorgiaDogs.com for the latest results.
[su_spacer size=”40″] Day two action at the Bulldog Scramble begins Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex. There will be two rounds of doubles to start the day, and singles matches will begin at approximately 1:30 p.m. This is the final tournament of the fall season for the Bulldogs.
